Driving along yesterday in a 80 zone in my work van I was doing about 85, Yes I know I was speeding.
I catch a glimpse of a 4wd coming in my rear vision mirror next its up on my tail and very close.
Them there is a gap on the inside of me on the dirt and he over takes.
It was a hilux about 11foot tall rubber about 6foot tall rocks and dirt flying every where.
What chance have we got.

All the best
Eric

Eric,

Sounds like your normal country cowboy driver. City slickers would never do such a thing :))))))

Did you do the responsible thing - record his number plate, time and place then report his actions to the local constabulary? "Not your part in the speed of course - just his irresposnible behaviour". I know that should the Police receive several such complaints from seperate individuals, they would be delighted to "have a chat" to the lovely person behaving soooooo badly.
Cheers and stay safe

Double standards here it seems - you're speeding, giving 4WDs a bad name, and you are complaining about another one breaking the law.

Off to the Galley, my friend, KP duty for you.......

5k's over the speed limit, although breaking the law, is hardly the same as tailgating, over taking on the left etc etc.....

Try going .05, it's only .001 over.

You are perhaps thinking of what the penalty should be for various "degrees" of overstepping the mark, or confusing justice with law, or visualising the possible negative outcome of various styles of offense.

The point is, 4wd bashing is so prevalent in the press, if you saved a child from drowning and then stepped into your fourby with a bullbar, you would get crucified for that.

No... I wasn't thinking of various degrees of anything. I agree wholeheartedly that 5K's over the limit is still speeding and therefore "against the law". My point is that, although 5ks over is against the law, it will be a rare occurrence that an onlooker would say "Oh look at that four-wheel-driver, he's going 5k's more than the speed limit!"
I bet the chances are higher that an onlooker would say "Oh look at that four-wheel-driver, he's tailgating & just overtook on the inside & generally being a moron on the road!"

4WD bashing is prevalent in the press, because certain people have a vested interest in 4WD bashing, and the media seem to be in these peoples pockets! So to an extent you may be correct with your comments regarding the drowning child.

Alloy..... yes, you are correct in saying "if you kill some one by only 5k over you have still killed them ," so I take it then that you you are NEVER above the speed limit? Ever?? I admit to it..... many times. Hundreds of times! Actually more like thousands of times! Haven't killed anyone yet, which doesn't make it ok, I know, but I do believe that tailgater's and the like are much more likely to suffer that fate than I am.
It's seems like common sense to me

YMMV (to quote Truckster)

Cheers

Brian

Not sure why 4x4's get a bad name really, if parked next to a say commodore to me its just "whom" gets in behind the wheel and there attitude to driving the vehicle.

It's just a pity 4x4 gets in the paper all the time about these things and not many of the 2wd.

Had the same thing happen a few years ago a vehicle (2wd) pass a number of vehicles mine included, swerving to get back into the line of traffic causing a few of us to take evassive action.

Not the smartest thing apart from the danger side, cause he was in a company ute with the name on the doors etc so one phone call was made.

But of course this sort of driving by 4x4 person/s does not help.
