Ron
This system replaces the cdma network and that closes down next year.
I am not sure but I believe that telstra are slowly replacing the cdma mobile network modems with the new Next G. I don't now about cost's as mine is a (fringe benefit)
My contact ( the sales lady at tetstra) to get the new pin no did not know any thing about them also.

NextG: I have it and not impressed right now. Here I am in North
Adelaide, 2k from CBD, almost line of sight. Have 5 green bars and the icon says "Edge" which according to BigPond techo yesterday, means I'm in a difficult zone for the thingy to work
well.
Techo did some diagnosis, said I'm operating at 25% of average wireless performance. All for $50 month and I'm here for a month!!
3 minutes for www.bigpond.com to open! ExplorOz site is quick though!!!
Meantime, lightning fast in country NSW,
What the??
Cheers, RayJen

RayJen,
When I had The 3G set up I found It dropped out a lot and we are surrounded by towers but a move outside and down the road 200m all the bars came on.
When it worked it was very fast same as the next G . The speed of cdma was hopeless but coverage was good.

Sounds like you have a problem of using a firewall other than Windows firewall. Norton, McAfee etc firewalls will not work properly with NextG and cause the issues you are having.
Download and install the latest Bigpond software as there is a new version out with substantial improvements all round.
Here is the link to the Bigpond Connection software. Install don't do anything else. Just run the file.

Hi Big Al,
I understand the data rates are quite fast - but I would be very careful about the tariffs for data transfers - I think it can get very expensive, very fast.
Cheers,
Jezza

Mate you are operating on 3G. Next G does not become operational until end of June at the earliest.
Yes I am working on the project.
Cheers

Bollocks!
NextG has been operating since October 2006 and I obtained a NextG Turbo modem from Telstra in January.
The network might not be FULLY operational yet but I am getting some good download speeds so far, though coverage is not quite as good as CDMA in a couple of
places I have been.
27 Megabytes of data downloaded in 6 minutes in a regional area on the
Yorke Peninsula was pretty good!

Redone Redwrong NextG has been operational since September 06 here and we have been using NextG broadband wireless internet for 4 months, nearly 5 actually. Definitely no 3G 2100 here and never will be, only 3G 850 WCDMA
Connected to one of the new 200km range towers on Monday at 152k from tower you wouldn't dream of that on 3G 2100 GSM
If you are working on the NextG 850 project it must be at some distant planet from earth with some foreign telephone company. Would you like to tell us which part you are working on with which company on which planet.
Yeah keep running, make sure you put your runnning shoes on or you may get thorns.

G'day, We are sittin' pretty in our camper in a friends front yard, at the bottom of Mt Donna Buang, just before our departure
We bought NextG Telstra Turbo(sorry free as promotion) last week and since then even though I have only two bars on the NextG phone I am still getting 68.9Kbps with the modem, that's better than what I got with my broadband at
home.

well I'm one of those unlucky b@#$%^&s that was sucked into CDMA Telstra internet 2 year contract. Max speed of download that I have ever had was 10KBS avg 3.5KBS. I keep ringing up begging for G upgarde (supposed to be free). Promises, promises etc All I can say is crap!!!!

You need to push the right buttons and ask them to supply you drivers for Vista which they cannot and never will. They will upgrade you then if you get the right person. Because you are in a country area go to Telstra Countrywide who will get it changed over for you quickly by lodging an official internal complaint process.
