Just back from the local Toyota dealer to book the Troopie in for the recall.

What they will be doing is replacing the 6 bolts that hold the disk rota hub on.

I was also told that the recall came from overseas originally and Toyota was playing it safe. After the recall I wounder if Toyota will announce how many vehicles are affected.

I was also told that if there were any problems with the disk rotors or pads that they will not/ can not release the vehicle back to me in a unsafe condition.
Better check the rotors and pads before next Friday.

2 hours to do the job. That would be 4 vehicles per day for the apprentice. This is going to be a long recall to get through all the vehicles. I am glad I booked early.

If you are not the original owner of the vehicle, like me, what they will need to know is the VIN and the rego plate. This might same some time if you have that information when you go to book in. It would probably be on the letter that you should receive if you are the original owner.

Hi Wayne,
The cynic in me is thinking with this clause, "I was also told that if there were any problems with the disk rotors or pads that they will not/ can not release the vehicle back to me in a unsafe condition." there'll be an aweful lot of unsuspecting owners paying for their recall.

I haven't had a letter from Mr Toyota yet, I think my Troopy is a later production than the oldest date for the recall.

Geoff,

That is why I put that in the post. If the vehicle has to be worked on for the recall have the brakes checked before. It will be a lot cheaper in the long run.

And I wonder how many dealers will say " sir you need some new pads they are worn right down" and there will still be 50% left on them. $100+ for them. I wonder if they'll also charge you for fitment of pads even though the calliper will be off and the pads out anyway?? Wouldn't surprise me. Good warning though Wayne for everyone. Steve M

For the life of me I can't see how in 45 mins. "-
you could walk into the front counter at a service department.
Sign the form to perform the work.
Have a mechanic/apprentice get your car out the car park.
Drive to the workshop and either jack up or put it on the hoist
Loosen and remove wheel nuts
remove wheel
loosen and replace 6+ disc rotor bolts
and then put it all back together again,
get the paperwork through to the front office
once agin sign to agree the work was done and then get ouit of there.

Either your watched stopped for a bit or they didn't do the job or it wasn't within the serial no range.

Sorry it is just the cynic in me.

I just changed my rotors and pads a couple of weeks ago and all was well (260K) so I wouldn't panic.
I wonder if they replace the hub seal they will probably tear when they pull it apart.
Or if everyone will get water in their bearings in the not too distant future.
