Iv'e been searching for some 17x7.5 steel rims for a 120 Prado. Ther'e like hens teeth! Toyota only recommend 17x7.5 full stop. The dealers don't seem to help or know.
Anyone know if 17x8 Sunraysia rims would be an OK solution.

thanks - Ian

Hi Ian,

I have just done this two weeks ago.

I just bought a set of white steel Sunraysia rims (plus the BFG ATKOs to match). They are a bit of a wider wheel (17x8.0J) and they will fit. Look good too. The tyres are also a higher spec; from 265/65/R17 to 265/70/R17.

You *will* have one problem though. The 5th wheel will not fit on the spare wheel carrier! You will need to get some spacers that fit between the rear door and the spare wheel carrier that are about 15mm with a 50mm diameter. You will also need to take off that plastic lip they have under the tyre (no big deal).

I had no clue on how to do this but ARB North (Traction 4) help out - they made up a set from some heavy duty nylon plastic.

Costs:
Bob Jane T-Mart (Brookvale)
5 x Sunraysia rims (white) = $115 each
5 x BFG ATKO (265/70/R17) = $300 each

ARB (Traction 4) (Artarmon)
1 set Spacers = ~$100 (I think it was about this but I got a discount as I was buy other stuff).

One guy on this forum said he did it with a thick plastic chopping board - and it would probably work if you are able to make this. It might need two layers depending on the thickness.

I am keeping my Alloys with the Grantreks for city driving and the Sunraysia/BFGs for treks and offroad.

Hope this helps you out.

Regards,
Juzzy

Speak with Darren @ ATS in Geelong, an expert at sourcing hard to get tyre sizes & rims.
Cheers Craig.............
