Pt headlands already copped it and we have recieved over 24 hours of rain at nullagine and buffeting winds. Looks possible it may not be over with a second cyclone heading our way although they are HIGHLY unpredictable.

bugger it I m going over the hill back to mcamp befor I drown

mirror.bom.gov.au/products/IDR162.shtml is the radar image from Port Hedland. It shows Nullagine, and as I'm watching, Davoe's gunna get wet.

The link in his posting is spooky - two cyclones tracking the same line!

Good luck to all up that way.

Yeah - I heard 3 dead so far. That's highly unusual. Shows how bad it is.

Also, there's a truckie up there somewhere that's stuck on the Hedland-Newman Road, near Indee in his semi. Can't move and he's just bunked down in his sleeper cab, pulled the blankets over his head and trying to just ride it out. That msut be scary out there on yer own!

I rode one out in the bush near Meeka in a camper trailer and it was nowhere near as bad as this one, Frightening stuff.

Hello All

It appears that the fatalities and numerous injuries were caused by mining camp dongas rolling over and then structurally failing . The dongas may have been cyclone rated , but the tie down methods were absent or unsatisfactory . The big camp destroyed was at FMG's base at Wodgina , but the camp may have been a contractors facility . One fatality , I believe , was at Indee Station , and again was a mining contractor . Mining camps are generally not subject to town council engineering control and in the past there has been , in some cases , glaring examples of unsatisfactory structures and procedures .

On a happier note , here in Port Hedland , we were hit by about Cat 3 effects , and damage was largely restricted to substandard roofs and structures . No power in much of the town so my GMC850 generator is switching between two houses to keep the fridges/freezers going . What great value for a $100 generator . Last night it ran all night [ 11 hours ] on one tank of fuel while powering a large two door fridge freezer . I know there is a lot of support for the $980 Honda's , but the GMC can't be beaten for value .

Must go and clean up in time for the next one .

Watching Jacob - still on a trajectory straight towards Karratha and chasing his brother George's tail. Looks like you'll get wet again.
