Can anybody tell me if they know of troubles injectors and or fuel pumps because
of bad fuel getting past the genuine filter.
a friend of mine has had big trouble with his engine and toyota is blaming bad fuel
( no warranty) his is only 4000ks old .
ive had no touble at 42000ks only changed filter at 39000 not because it was blocked either. mine is 14 months old .

the injectors are 1200 dollars a piece to replace.
any feedback very welcome

Have had a similar problem on my pajero , and a friend with a Triton diesel.
Both older model diesels with mechanical injection.

Filters didn't block all of the the dirt (got overwhelmed) and seals in injector pump needed replacing. But you can see it in the fuel filter when it is taken off. Full of rubbish.

Did you get a look at your fuel filters?

We are supposed to change filters every 20,000k. Because of bad fuel, was replacing at 3000k at one stage. So bad we were down on power from lack of fuel.

Flushed the fuel tank in the end. Only way to get rid of it.

If it is so bad, you should drain the fuel tank too. Get a sample from the fuel tank.
Mine was so dirty, had a litre in a soft drink bottle and you couldn't see through it and there was about 3mm of sludge and dirt in the bottom once it settled for a day.

I am no diesel expert, but apparantly common rail diesels are very sensitive to dirty fuel, mainly I believe the fuel pump is the problem.
When you are looking at $1200.00 for injectors and 4 to 5 thousand for a pump it is hard to see value in a diesel

Injectors don't need replacing - they can be taken out and cleaned and the spray pattern tested.

Had mine done at Ultratune, not very expensive.

But you should drain the tank first as mentioned above.

this is the first bad thing ive heard about this engine and i'm really glad it's not mine with the problem .
my mate is not impressed with the whole show.
i reckon mine is the best thing since sliced bread cant fault how it goes .
i worried me when i heard the story i had to try and find out about the potential
disaster.
i think the toyota service place is fishing for a answer in there favour.
if there filter is so good as the phamplet tells you in the books then why did the bleep get through pete said the filter looked fine he even replaced it in case
