luke.b,
I was using Rimula X in my 85 model HJ 75 until one day a mate looked it up on the
Shell site and it said that i should be using Rimula D or Super Diesel. The last two are supposed to be for the older diesel motor. Don't know anything about the technicalities though.
Cheers,
Bros.

G'day Luke,
I've used Rimula for many years now.
Rimula X is mineral based. Used to use it in my old GQ
Rimula Super is semi-synthetic. Used it almost exclusively in my older 1hz 100 series and now in my TD 100 series.
Rimula Ultra is fully synthetic. Used it a long time ago in my first 100 series for two changes. I buy all my
Shell oil in 20 litre drums and I think the Super was $220 about 6 or 7 years ago. I currently use Super at about $110/20litre drum.
In theory you could extend service intervals on Ultra but for warranty you still need to change Toyotas every 5000kms. Hopefully this will change with the new V8 diesel.
Cheers
Jayson

it does not mater what sort of oil you use in jap diesels due to the design of the engine all jap diesels make soot this is why they rec to change oils on a regualar basis IE 5000k it does not mater if you use black & white brand oil or the very best synthetic
