You know it's really quite simple, all we want is 4by with reliability, articulation, and longevity.

How hard is it?

All we what is a reliable 4byb with articulation!!

Stop with all the CD stackers, elec windows & fluff.

Concentrate on a platform that can take people from Melb to Pt Headland

Cheers

Toyota 80 series, Toyota Troop Carrier, Nissan GQ. They are there, strong and reliable.

My GQ has all the electric stuff as well and is a good 4by for all occasions

And then we want diversity and price differential.

How hard is it ? Not hard if you're trying to sell the only 4wd in the world to the only customer in the world.

My needs are probably different to yours, and certainly different to a mining company.

So Red...."reliability, articulation, and longevity......................Is that all you really want??
You don't want a good power to weight ratio, low down torque, long range tanks, good load carrying capacity, 8 comfortable seats, soft ride, excellent road holding, good fuel econemy, a smooth gearbox & a light clutch for the wife to drive, cheap spare parts, choice of colors, user friendly dash, low road noise, advanced safety features, good approach, departure & ground clearance not to mention all for a cheap price.
And of course looks don't matter although we really don't want our 4 wheelers to look like Musso's now do we? ;-)
If you only want those 3 features then I believe the vehicle you may be looking for is a 1945 Willy's Jeep but I think 4x4 manufacturers may have moved on a little since then.
4by's are a compromise built to accomodate a vastly different group of users from recreation, goverment to mining. It would be nice to think they could build them to suit us all but somehow I don't think we could afford the price.
Maybe if we didn't overload & push the current range of 4by's passed the designers limits then we may already have a few reliable ones on offer.
Cheers Craig...............

Nothing wrong with my V8. I would be a little hesitant to get a TD5 though :)

You know 95% of all Landrovers sold are still on the road, the other 5% made it home :)

I saw a Landrover in its natural environment the other day - Up on a hoist!

Seriously, I love a Defender theyre so - agricultural
