Hi All,

The following link is to a Parliamentary petition to keep Fraser Island (North of Hook Point) open to 4WDs. It has been generated by David Gibson MP. If you sign this petition, then David will take it to Parliament for debate. If you feel strongly about the issue - then forward the link on to anyone you know who has a 4WD or visits Fraser. So far there are 200 signatures - we need many thousands if Fraser is to be kept open.

Be warned, they do ask you to verify yourself by providing name and address - Mickey Mouses and Donald Ducks wont go through.

Graham.

Posts 43088, 43079 and 43041 deal with the same petition. Unfortunately, only residents of Qld are able to participate. Perhaps the good Minister (is this an oxymoron???) may wish to extend the reach of the petition to include the many thousands of visitors from other states who love to visit Fraser.

I agree with Jack in the previous post it would be a pity if all the interstate users could not participate. My wife & I have been there 3 times to date & it would be a pity to not have the opportunity to visit again.

ep I agree this access, as with all is bigger than the state where it resides, it is of interest to all australians and overseas adventurers

Keep in mind that the area that is in question is from the SE corner of the island to 18Ks up the main beach, there is the old sand mining road at the back of the coastal dunes that will be used in place of the beach .This road has been the alternate route when the tide is high or the beach is untrafficable. The sand on the SE corner is quite often soft and boggy due to the action of the surf and the sand miners have stripped all the heavy elements from the sand as well, leaving it "fluffy". This is also a heavy erosion area due to the prevailing seas.
I can't see a problem with a closure of that section (give the pippies a break) providing the access road is maintained in reasonable condition.

Just my opinion , not trying to change anybody else's.
Cheers Dave L.
