Hi All , just got back from the caravan show it was quite good with lots of gadgets and stupid prices,of all the vans we seen have to say the new Jayco was a huge dissapointment, they seem to have taken away it's "character" it was plain and boring next to some of the competition, couldn't believe the worktop covering was done in any colour as long as it was white with speckles, and no they dont come in any other colour than that ? I think I'd rather have my old 02 Freedom than the new Destiny, any one seen it ? what did you think ?
regards,
Dave

Hey Dave,
We went past on saturday about 11am and the traffic was banked up back down farmer freeway both ways for at least one kilometre!!! Glad i went on thursday!! I fell over when i went into opposite locks stand and saw the $165 tag on the reece hitch receiver for recovery-same brand at super cheap ARK? I think it was called only $54!!!
Regards
jason

You are right about Jayco. We have just sold our Jayco outback camper trailer and are in the process of getting a bigger bugger.

Went to Jayco last week to look at the new ones, YUK YUK YUK YUK YUK YUK !

Damn, the colours are horrible, which wouldn't normally be a concern of mine, but the big concern was the spare wheel is now bolted to the back of the body, and the outer shell is now fibreglass.

A few corrugated roads should sort that out quick smart. I gave the spare tyre a few hits with the palm of my hand and the whole back section of the camper shook and gave me the distinct impression that it is not as sturdy as the old system of putting the spare on a heavy rear bumper bar.

When we bought our last Jayco [december 2005] I didn't think the build quality was as good as previous models, and the new one looks absolutely crap.

We went on Friday, lucky that we got there early as we would have been sitting in traffic for quite some time.
We enjoyed the show and thought that there was a lot more there than usual.
I agree with you in your observations of the new caravans, we saw nothing there that would temp us into changing our Westport, much nicer interior and it has survived some rough roads that I would not be game to take some of the new ones on unless they were off-road ones. We were impressed with "the big silver bus" however I think it would be too awkward.

Cheers

Went twice,Thurs and Sun.(nightmare with the traffic). If I were looking to buy a van it would be the Trailcraft----if it were a small poptop camper it would be the Goldstream or Corromal Sillouette---for the camper trailer I will stick to the one I bought at the last show, the Pioneer Argyle S.E. A good show but I thought the parking and food outlets could have been improved.

Hi everyone
We went at lunchtime on Friday and waited half an hour to get a park. But then we were lucky and found someone just pulling out. Others would have waited much longer. If it's at the same venue next year I won't bother going.

Agree with you about the vans - colours horrible and we certainly have some concerns about the fibreglass. One thing we must remember especially with Jayco & Coromal I believe that they are simply built to a price and if you remember that and don't attempt too much rough roads you'll be fine. We have a 16' 2001 Jayco Freedom which has only ever given us very minor problems.

Well the traffic would give the organises something to think about next year!!
Don't know why poeple go for show specials buy on new vans etc. talked to a few sales poeple, they are NOT very interested in giving the best deal. the next patsy will buy.Too many potential buyers at show.

We too went to the show, long, long wait from around 11.00am Friday to get any where near the place then to park - most frustrating but got there in the finish. Was probably disappointed in the show itself and thought there would be more and better demos etc. As someone else said been there and done that (now). Certainly plenty of vans, campers, m/homes etc but still think our Trailcraft C/van is one of the better built, finished and equipped vans.
I'm sure the organisers will need to rethink for next year and more people will have there say in the coming week - whether it be good or otherwise comments.

I went to the show yesterday. I have realised that my caravan is under insured. Not very impressed with the rest of the stuff. That might be because I could not afford it.

I went on Saturday at 9.40 and the queue wasn't too bad, we at least got off the Freeway before hitting it. I find it ironic to be stuck in the middle of a crowd of people who share one single thing in common - the desire to 'get away from it all'.

Queues for food and drinkwere a bit ridiculous, more outlets needed.

Perhaps it's time to split the show, have a separate caravan Show perhaps, we couldn't have been the only ones there with no interest in caravans or Winnebago type vehicles.

We picked up several leaflets and spent a lot of time checking out off-road camper trailers and the big range just about made it worthwhile paying the $26 for the two of us to enter what is basically a shop. This is the first time I have decided to part with my cash and go to one of these shows, I suspect that they are pretty much the same each year so I won't go again for at least three years.

Some of the videos showing trailer tents being errected were technically interesting, all poles/pegs/mallets etc seemed to always miraculously appear at hand, and there were occassional 'fades' between shots, neither of these events seemed to affect the countdown clock in the corner! I would guess that a camper tent shown as being 3 minutes to erect would be nearer ten for the average person.
Still pretty quick but outshone by the Live demo indoors of a hard floor version being ready for an overnight stop in around 30 seconds. It's not really the time that is the issue but the stuffing around with poles and pegs and such like.

Time to save now, I want a 30 second version before the Great Grey Nomad Trek begins!

I went on Sunday. We got in for $18.00 being pensioners but didn't see value for money.
I say if you want to the you should pay not the public who you are trying to sell to.
The same thing applies to the Perth Royal Show. You pay to get in to spend your money.
I haven't been to the Royal Show for thirty year and have no intention of going again and the same applies to the Caravan & Camping Show

I too saw no value for money . I agree with you Ray. Was looking for a nice camper trailer. They now seem awfully expensive and I don't think we would be much better off than the enclosed tradesman trailer and tent we now have. Can store all our stuff in that and just put up our tent.

Disappointed really . And for the rest of it lots of stores pushing Engel and Waeco refrigerators .

Cheers.
