Hi all
i am planning a trip from
Perth to
Adelaide then onto
Coober Pedy in late Sept 07 and was wondering what the cost is for diesel at the moment across the Nullarbor if anyone knows.
Just trying to cost out the trip.
I have looked at Fuel watch etc.. but there are no prices from that area.
Cheer's

Basically with a few exceptions, it is a monopoly/cartel.
One operator (working sites for various owners).
Providing very little value-added service.
Charging obscene prices.
Making a lot of money on fuel.
The operator is the owner of Border Village near
Eucla on the border. I try to avoid him and his mob at all costs.
Mundrabilla SAFF is not one of the Cartel, as also the
Eucla Roadhouse (on the WA side of the border) - someone else may remember which other ones are not.

Hi Kevin,
we done that trip last year, what I can tell you is when you get to
Norseman fill both tanks there {it was a $1.30 at that time } and that should take you right across the Nullabor, you can then fill up at Minderoo for the same price as
Norseman, all the way across the Nullabor the average {when it was a $1.30 anywhere else} was $1.70 plus, just a rip off mate,
hope you have a good one,
Dave

If you fill up at the Shell (?) service station near the info station and say you are going across the Nullabor then they probably give you a note with prices on it for the trip.
www.nullarbornet.com.au/index.htm is a good web site for people making the crossing.

Mundrabilla (?SAFF) is the best in the middle section,
then
Penong Caltex truckstop is the cheapest diesel west of
Port Augusta.

And if I were to guess the diesel price, I'd guess it would be $1.30 at
Penong and $1.40 at
Mundrabilla - just based on past experience.

Yep, I'd be doing
-
Shell at
Norseman (right in town, not at the edge),
-
Mundrabilla SAFF (still expensive, but not as..) and then
-
Penong, which is SAFF, and quite cheap.
or the reverse of the above if you're travelling West (the best way to go..)
btw, did you ever notice, no matter which way you're travelling on the Nullarbor, you always have a howling headwind?

Gerry - you betcha. Head winds on demand and mega fuel consumption both ways.
However - once in 1999 we had a tail wind across and had to siphon fuel out of the tanks into a jerry can. Wind blew so hard we made diesel!

Yeh, Max, a mate of
mine reckoned he had a vehicle like that. Dangerous, tho. When the tank get full, it can overflow, causing a fire
hazard. ;-)

Fly man!. . . . save yourself the eye strain across the nullandboring and then with the money you save on petrol/diesel buy SWMBO something nice! LOL

Can't see the point of getting fuel prices 6 months before you want to travel. We could have the threat of another war in the Middle East or natural disaster in that time and the price could be double what it is now.

Wiard
you may not see the point of the question but you didnt have to reply either. you also sound rather negative about what happens in the world also.
