hi there, we spent the long weekend at Cumberland River Holiday Park on the Great Ocean Road, Al used to go there as a boy with his family so the park has been around a while and he has raved about it for ages and we finally were able to get a site - which as we found out was because someone else had cancelled - it's very popular at peak times. The park is great especially for kids as there is stacks to do. Our kids enjoyed playing in the river, there is an area which has been damned and there is a swimming pool there, the beach is across the road [Great Ocean Road] and was reasonably safe[as safe as an ocean can be, obviously supervision is required at all times, older kids were having a ball boogie boarding], the river flows into the sea here and the kids can play there as well, when the tide is out there are stacks of rock pools to explore. There are also a number of bush walks, we did the one to Jebbs Pool, where there is a small waterfall which I believe is very popular on hot days, Al said as a boy he used to slide down into the pool below, and it certainly looked like it had been well used.

The Park is in a Gorge and is very pretty, I think flappa had a problem there with a big wind gust, and I can certainly understand how that would happen. Some of the sites are pretty small, though, everyone seemed to fit in ok, ours was a bigger site for which we were grateful. Some of the sites are on the river bank and looked very nice, though I'd imagine on a hot day some would get pretty hot. The park has no power, though, you can light a fire in fire bins, either take your own or use the ones provided. Hot showers are available - 20 cents for 6 minutes. There are bbqs in an old hut with fireplaces, which I think you can still use there is also sinks here to wash up as well, there is also a Laundry with washers and dryers. Lots of wildlife around, and even though the park was full, it was still great as everyone was really friendly and all the kids seemed to get on.

We intend to go back on a not so busy weekend, hopefully this time we'll be able to get more than one site :))

cheers

Lyn

We were there for a couple of nights back in October.

Very pictureque, very windy (as was the whole coast), and the folks up in the office were friendly and helpful.

We would go back there.

We quite happily drive the 40 minutes down the Ocean Road several times a year to Cumberland River park, Fantastic spot, fires are a bonus and the kids have a ball.
Staff are a great crew, nothing seems to be a problem.

Just went past it yesterday on the home from Aire River and we comment on the place every time. Have stayed there before and we really appreciated the very "clean" grassed sites. The only drawback that we know of is the price per site. I think it is one of the most expensive camping parks in Vic, whereas Aire River (Horden Vale) is free - but more than 1.5hrs further west.

yep a bit pricey, but for the occaisional stay, as we mostly camp in the bush, I reckon it's worth every cent, the kids had a ball...

And you never know what you may find!

We camped on one of the river front sites a few years ago. Just put the barbie on for a few snags when I noticed something shiny floating down the river.

Stepped in to remove the rubbish before it went into the ocean and heh presto! two unopened cans of Johnny Walker and Coke, all cooled and ready to open.

Best find in ages. :)
