Just had the Patrol serviced for the 100,000k and have not had a thing wrong in all that time ecept off course the wing mirrors fell off coming down the Tanami Road a couple of years ago, the truck really does a great job here in NZ, anyway just gone through a bit of drama, after the service when the main fuel guage reading quarter full and i took a turn to the right nad the engine stopped, restarted and carried on after about 2k the same thing happened going to the left, called the service people and told them" they thought i was mad" did around 450k with no problem then bang again at the same fuel level reading after a right turn it stopped and i restarted then after a few k's and a turn left it did it again. Today i took it back to the service centre and and the way the fuel guage reach the quater level again and again it started to stop on the straight this time i was ready for it and hit the reserve button and away we went. The service centre could find nothing wrong so ontghe way back i got the fuel level back down to the quarter level again and went straight into the gas station and filled the main tank it took 133.5 litles which means that my guage is now reading a incorrect level when i look at the level indicator it was showing way above the full mark as if the needle has moved a full quater to the right, i might add that we have a 145L main & 80L reserve tanks has anyone had this sort of thing happen and could a service ie connecting computers to the engine reset the guage etc.
Apart from those 2 things the truck is going great.

Nissan fuel guages!! May as
well use a graduated piece of wood.
Mine used ro read low when it was full. A new, second earth strap fixed that.
But yours sounds like the tank float wants adjusting by bending the float arm.

Hi 10Para
Had a good look at my GU 145lt tank when I fitted it and it has no where near the swirl protection of a standard Nissan tank.
This means that it can read significantly different depending on load which changes the fore/aft and sideways fuel level reading.
So once or twice I had similar issue and now know that the last few liters is only available on the straight and level.
If low on fuel and I do a right turn around a round about the engine will cough and I know I'm getting close to the limit.
Also I optimized my guage reading by bending fuel sender unit and also re welding the sender arm such that guage shows empty when almost empty and shows full for first 200km before needle comes down to full.

Hey Brian, when I saw the heading (100,000 up), I thought you were talking about fish!!!!
But even you couldn' catch that many could you?
We are heading off on Thursday to start on our 100,000, but it will take more than one trip to catch that many. Have to start planning a few more.
You must be on your way
home soon?
