we did the road through davenport rd a few years ago(dry conditions) and found no dramas. In the wet it maybe a different story. We did see little traffic but that may also depend on what time of year you go.

We did this drive last year during the dry and it was fine - no major dramas. The only issue we had was that as the land is so flat you tend to get mirages which I found quite difficult to drive with as you couldn't see what the road was doing up ahead - we found getting your driving over and done with early in the day before the heat caused the mirages to develop was a much better option.

You haven't mentioned what month you will be travelling - this will make a difference. If coming from Innamincka will also depend how much fuel you can carry. I will be going that way in late May and will fuel at Windorah (because I'm coming from the east) then from Betoota along road to Bedourie but turning off at the No 3 bore and heading in through Springvale and Coorabulka. When you get to No 3 bore it's not that far into Bedourie to re-fuel (if you need to). We don't go in through Davenport - too fiddly. Great place the DNP - how long will you stay and which way will you go next?

Ruth, glad to hear it. No doubt its a bit of a novel experience.
Bet you don't remember me :))
Anyway will be out to B'Ville and up to Boulia and back on the tar playing touro guide (again!) in early July. No camping this time, passenger likes to stay in accom.
Anyway it shouldn't be too dry this year...or perhaps it will be by then, who knows.

We'll be going in July, initially travelling up from Malprinka via Innaminka and it's local spots to see. Re. fuel, we have 180litre tank. May be better to go NWest a bit via Bedourie but looks a long way around because after DNP we need to start heading back towards Syd
