I have just worn out my second set of mud tyres..... got around 50K kilometres out of each set. (I don't keep a set of road tyres for everyday use and a set of "play tyres... so the muddies are on all the time.) After staking one tyre some time ago and having to pay the freight on a single tyre from Melbourne to the Gold Coast, I decided to go with a more well known brand that should be readily available in most large towns. Yep... bought me a set of BFG mud tyres yesterday, and could not believe the difference in comparison to the old Pro Comps. Quieter, (Yes they will get noisier with age) but also smoother on the road as well!!

Am VERY happy with them!

Cheers

Brian

Brian, I have been running BFG muddies on my patrol for 3 years and very happy. I have got about 65k kilometres out of them and still got a fair bit to go. Good in bush, out touring and on the road.

I run BFG muds on my 80 series and have over 40k on them already and there is still heaps of tread left on them.. It is the daily driver although being in the Caloundra City 4WD Club we do a fair bit of challenging stuff which tests the tyres out too... and I have done a trip to Cape York on them also..

I agree that they are not too noisy and for me the road handling performance has been great!

The only downside to these I have found is that the sidewalls are a little on the weak side for my liking...

I would expect 70k plus out of mine and still be a useable off road tyre going by the current rate of wear..

Gaday Brian. Although you can stake just about any tyre you may find the Pro comps are actually a little tougher in the side walls than the BFG's. (From a dealer that sold both & saw far more returns on the BFGs) Still an excellent pattern that is hard to beat for on/off road use.

Hi Craig....
Yeah I have heard that, but to be honest the only reason I went with BFG's is the availability thing. I shudder to think what it would cost to get a tyre freighted anywhere remote..... 'cos Pro Comps aren't available everywhere yet. When they are I may switch back. The last set of pro Comps were really rough and noisy as well..... much rougher than the first lot.

Cheers

I found that the BFG's squirmed when you went into a round about.. so went back to MTR's on the GU.. mine were 33's. What size are yours?

be interested to see if yours are same.

Mine are 33's..... last night we were coming home from dinner at Burleigh.... took the route our through Christine Ave which is roundabout city!!!! I found the truck really stable and I was chucking it through the roundabouts with more confidence than I previously would have. I thought at first it may have been just 'cos they're new, but after the 4th or so roundabout I realized I had never been able to do that with the Pro Comps..... don't get me wrong, the Pro Comps are a great tyre but geeze these BFG's are smooth and responsive!
Could it be the lift Bruce??? Mine is 3" lift, no body lift and still has rear sway bar on, (I have had a disconnect fitted, but the rear end articulates fully with it still on, so I haven't disconnected it yet)... I know your GQ was quite high, what have you done with the GU??

Cheers

Could be the lift, but mine was back down to 4inch sus/2in body in the end.

more like the pressures, mine felt like bubble gum, really rolled around heaps.. Like racing on Wets

No squirming for me... running 305/70/16 (33") BFG muddies.. on road pressure 42psi front and rear, off road pressure 25psi front and rear...

I have always had very direct feel through the tyres... they have never let go on me around round abouts, in the wet, under heavy braking etc..

I have been impressed with the on road attributes more so than I expected when I bought them..

Cheers
