Mr. "B" you crack me up with your humour!
Is that why you surround yourself with really nice toyota owning friends?
So when you go 4wding you always have a reliable tow vehicle to get you outa strife, its only a matter of time mate !

hahahahahah I shall not mention being pulled thru a boggy section by a 80 series that subsequently broke a CV or something in its front end, I should have known that a Toyota front end is sus to any additional strain, like a stone on a tyre or something hehehehehe

Might I add that he had 33" tyres vs 31's on the Patrol and well his piddly little diff pumpkins cleared all but the deepest ruts while the truck built Nissan sat on top of the dirt hahahahah then I rolled tyre off the rim and the day started to get better then rofl

the search button mustn't be working tonight! lol But I will answer. I hate it when that button isn't working too and I have to ask embarrassing questions;-))
I wouldn't go before '03 as I have heard unsubstantiated rumors the problem 3.0l engines were in vehicles until early '02. I personally have an '04 and wouldnt hesitate.

Eric, the early ones till mid 2000 were bad, later than that not so bad, 2003 onwards pretty good, 2004 I would not hesitate.
That said there are many many out there and only a small percentage that went bang.

Mine is a Jan 2001 registered and its in the not so bad category, I wouldnt be worried about a 04 model.

C'mon blokes :))) Did'nt someone here do a survey and consolidated the responses received regarding just this issue?

Surely someone's memory is in better shape than mine and can remember who was performing this exercise.

The 'improved' version was around October 2001 (ours is early 2002). Check our subtle differences on -

but there were rumors that there were a few of the 'old' motors creeping into early 2002 regardless. That's why I say 2003 to be sure. This may be a case of the vehicles being complied 2002 and still built in 2001. Vic roads puts 2002 year in this situation.

Eric

The motor came out originally in 2000 and they started blowing up. Nissan then put a bigger sump on them and more oil. They did a recall on the ones already made. No they did not put a bigger sump. They fixed them with a shorter dipstick.

Even after the fix they kept having problems. They are like the message in mission impossible - programmed to self-destruct. It will be interesting to see how the new common rail goes.

Having said all that there are plenty of people out there who have never had a problem with them and swear by them.

I would not trust any of them.

Remember that Nissan still say they they don't have ANY problems with these engines.

Thanks for that vote of confidence John. Maybe I'm one of the lucky ones, mines got 156k on it made May 2000 still going strong with no problems at all apart from a minor oil leak on the sump which was a nighmare to fix. Thank goodness Toyota make a decent silicon sealent.

Trust is a choice thing I think, you choose not to.

Martin yes you maybe right in respect of being one of the lucky ones. (I genuinely hope you remain that way)

Me I would never be happy about taking one of these things somewhere remote regardless of the year built, always in the back of your mind is gunna be the question "Is today the day"??

I have never said that Toyota is 100% reliable in every respect only a very brave man would but neither have I seen so many people who have been put through so much heartache with these 3.0 litre engines.

Good luck.

Hi Eric

Regardless of what people say even those who have brought these Nissan's and are trying to talk them up in the Hope of at least trying to retain some resale value.

The best thing to do is ring a Auction house and say you own one and want to sell it they will tell you what there worth Nothing and no one wants them.

People say the Truth hurt's

That is incorrect It is the None Axceptance Of The Truth That Hurt's.

And The Truth Is The Axceptance Of The Reality.

Nissan's Have No Resale Value as No One Want's Them.

End Of Story.

Hmm, aren't you the same guy that claimed Nissan put a 3.5L TDi in their Patrols? Aren't you also the same person who responded to a request for more info about a 2nd tow hook by saying it is required to get the car onto a flatbed?

I find most people on this forum are quite helpful with their comments but so far I would not place yours in that category.

Considering how Nissans have no resale (which you have also stated in a previous post) how is it that I was able to get more than my lease payout value on my 3 year old Patrol? Must have just been lucky I guess.

They must not be telling the car yards and dealers then becasue I just spent three days looking at plenty of 3 litre Nissans for sale ranging $36900 to $40990 second hand.

Seems pretty good resale value to me.

Ahh yes the price the car yard wants vs the price the car yard gets and if the car is in the yard, guess what..? It aint been sold.!

Fortunately for the car yards most people don't read these forums like you..!
