In the market for a new oz tent but undecided which one to get, rv2 or rv3..
anyone bought a rv2 and now wish they got the rv3, or visa versa..?
I mainly travel alone and dont think I will need the extra 40cm width with the rv3, but I dont want to be sorry after and regret it.. I suppose im asking is everyone happy with the size they purchased?

Have a look at the Black Wolf range. We did and are very happy.

We have an RV4 - pretty much the same as the RV3 except for depth. There are two of us but i have used it on my own and there is heaps of room inside with one person if you arent getting side panels etc then you may want the extra room of the RV3 in case it chucks it down......

Cheers

I have an RV4 with all the side and front panels, and it is excellent when my wife and I go away, but absolutely palatial when I am away by myself.

I *think* you may save a little in overall length with the RV2 and RV3 when they are packed up, which could be an issue.

If you can afford the rv3, just get it!
It takes up the same amount of room when being transported, same amount of time to put up (seconds) more room when up.
ensure that your vehicle has the ability to be ablility to carry it, oztents are all very long when folded, my rv5 is over 2 meters, thus making roof racks a neccesity

Happy camping,
Shane

Love my RV4 apart from the fact it's heavy and a little tricky to get back in the bag, think I have this sussed now..! (Patience..)

If you are undecided go the RV3 , that little extra room is always invaluable no matter what you use it for.

Can't be as bad as putting our bl**** dome tent away, 400 poles, 80 pegs, tent, fly etc. Although the bag is a good size (if you keep the pole bag seperate!)

I bought an RV2 about 5 years ago and I love it. It's just the right size for me to carry & transport inside my Troopie. On many occasions my dog travels with me & there is plenty of room for him too. Bought the extra sides & front and have used them on one occasion when I camped for 4 days at theTamworth Country Music Festival.

Cruiz'n,
not sure what model we have, but we have squeezd 2 adults and 3 kids into ours on more than 1 occasion. Also have been set up in some very unattractive and windy nights, where other tents and some dodgy campers had to be moved or were flattened, the oz tent just took it in its stride! in saying that tho the oz tent is now in the shed $#$%ed cause one of our kids put it up without the velcro straps done up. The tent blew down ( this all happened in our driveway, while we werent home ) and the aluminium frame was completely bent, so always make sure its put up properly!

Fishaholic:

If you call up the boys from Oztent and let them know the problem I am sure they will be able to get it sorted out for you. I have found their after sales service absolutely fantastic.

Last year, when travelling through WA we came across some travellers who were fixing a couple of broken bits on theirs (another story ...) and had called Oztent, who virtually moved heaven and earth to get them replacements as quickly as was possible.

We have the RV4. Needed the larger size to accomodate the the larger stretchers and Alpaca quilts we bought (no more laying on the floor for this black duck). Just something to consider when you choose your tent size. We only had one problem with the RV4 and that was the difficulty in getting the dam thing back in the bag...it was almost a divorce tent. In the end The Oztent people graciously sent us the RV5 bag and that has made a huge change in getting the tent back in the bag...easy as pie now. All in all, a bloody good product.

i went for the rv3 for myself and the missus, she can stand up easily to get dressed etc. plenty of room for the double swag as well as bags etc. I also got the 2 side and front panels standard roof not pitched. Best bit is it ALL fits easily in the standard bag :-)) I love it !!

The extra panels are great , a while back we were out and had to set up in fairly heavy rain, bloody quick to get main tent and front roof up, then shelter while doing the sides and front, it rained solid for 2 days and it was dry as toast in the main tent and only a small trickle at one join of the front room where the velcro top joined over the zips. Bloody Awesome !!

We have the RV3, very happy with it for longer trips, did the CSR with it. Length wise it just fits length ways in our ARB roof rack. We had a lot of rain out on the Canning had no problems with leaking. The only thing that we will be doing is getting more poles for the Front flap (if you like) and maybe sides as well. Room wise for us both, quite comfortable.

Cheers

I agree with Ian above. Check out Black Wolf. You get much more for your money, and doesn't have to go on the roof. Plenty in the archives about these.

I have the RV5, and its great. Vehicle has roof racks, so can transport it OK, but was thinking about the roof pod. Two reasons - keeping it out of the weather (rain followed by dust isnt a good combination), and for security while its on the roof and we are away from the vehicle.

I noticed there are two sizes of pods, the larger one would be good for the RV5, as well as carrying extras, but it looks expensive - $950 if I remember.

Cant find any info from Oztent.

Anyone with experience with these, especially the larger one?

I have an RV 4 and like most women I found it difficult to get back in the bag.Sure is easy as to put up though.Have a friend with industrial sewing machine so just had a much longer zip fitted in bag,Easy!Just pop the end in pulling bag as you go and Voila!all zipped up .I just lean it against theroof rack lift and push till on the balance-up the steps an a quick push and it's on the ARB rackwhere it is a nice tight fit.And incidently I'm no chicken!!
