I have approval from the minister for War and Finance to purchase a new vehicle.

I looking at a new Triton GLS dual cab. Some might not like the rounded look, but with a ARB bullbar, I don't think they look too bad. I was considering the cheap one, but she wants the flash model and also told me to get the accessories I want instead of saving up and fitting them as I go (Now I know she is up to something).

Anyway, anyone have any experence with the new model?

Apart from the looks the motors are not meant to be all that flash. People keep telling me the new nissan d40 is the go for round the same bucks.

Motors not meant to be that flash!!!!?

Mits have had very few dramas with their diesels from day one!

Unlike a lot off others.

Have you driven the latest triton diesel?

Very impressive in my opinion.

Cheers.

No cant say I have driven one.
I just went the hilux for better resale(something my jeep i just sold din`t have) and toyota normally get it pretty right.

When you say the motors are not too flash Stu do you mean power wise or the reliability? On a recent drive over the Snowy Mountains a new Triton outpulled the current Navara towing similar sized boats leaving him way back. The Triton is certainly an under rated ute that is probably the pick of the bunch at the moment. When we're due for a new ute at work I'll certainly be pushing for the Mitsubishi.
Cheers Craig.........

Toyota better resale possibly but $7k more to purchase.
magazines are rot as the motor is bullet proof and has proven to be. Show us a dud Mitzi diesel motor. Nissan Toyota LR Rodeo Mazda all had dud motors but not Mitzi.
Crackles on the money mate. money no object would buy another 3.2 Mitzi diesel.

$7k more???? Trition list price for dual cab diesel(manual, no auto for some reason?) is $49,990 and Hilux is $50,220.
I would say prices are the near enough to the same.

Hoyks,

do lots more research...lots and lots and lots more research. That's all I'm going to say for fear of being accused of being "negative".

That is what I am trying to do.

Lots have been sold, but apart from the magazine reviews, there isn't any feed back as to how they go long term or problems, if any.

I own one 3.2 diesel GLXR and replaced a 3.0litre patrol.

Huge power difference, tows my 2 tonne van like it wasn't there.

Drove the three top twin cab utes and it outperforms the Nissan and The toyota in pretty well all aspects.

Handles better, better turning circle, engine is more responsive.

NRMA rated it pretty highly too. Can't vouch for longevity yet but will let you know in 5 or six years??

not mates or heard this or that, as I own a current model diesel Triton 3.2. Warranty work 1 brake light switch, 48,000k, 31,000k towing caravan. best fuel consumption vehicle owned towing, to date lowest service costs. Pulls great up hills with vans and as far as I can see better than other diesel utes with same size motors. Importanly comfortable to drive long distance. my twin brother is trading his current model Hilux for a Triton 3.2 as expensive to service and run with other niggling problems. Would recommend Triton without any reservations. Consider Triton to be the best buy most underrated 4WD ute.

Yeah well NRMA did all the objective testing and the triton got 42 stars in total, the Nissan was next with about 39 I think and the Yota was 37, but they then went on to say the yota was best and the nissan second, so all their tests went out the window for a bit of "Brand Snobbery"

I did all the analysis of their tests and sent em an email asking how they came to their conclusion, so far no answer??

Saw one up in Cairns in Jul - the gap between the cab and ute was like 10mm at the bottom and 60 mm at the top - not sure what caused it, or whether it is common..

I've only test driven it and I have to say the damn thing pulls nearly as hard as the 3.0V6. As for longevity, this particular engine has already been out for a while in Europe with no known issues...

I also drove the Nissan and Hilux and not impressed with either of them mostly due to comfort (I'm tall and getting fat)

Blue

I am doing something I thought I would never do - agree with a Vic.

The Nissan does not have enough head room for anyone other than a dwarf. The Toyota is better but not by much.

If I own a vehicle I want comfort. I'm a Nissan owner and have always liked them. They seem to have late lost the plot.

Not sure whats wrong with their motors... but it sure ain't a lack of grunt !! Had a little run with one and it sure saw off my Terracan CRDI which is no slouch...

Not sure which is the most underrated 4x4 from Mitsubishi...... the Triton or the diesel "shorty " Pajero ???

G- Day Hoyks

I could be wrong, but I thought the Nissan Navara ST-R Diesels were the first
to have the towing capacity of 3000kg, While all other makes in that class
were rated at 1800kg.

THEY ARE FINALLY CATCHING UP.

Cheers

Towing capacity means nothing. The jeep I just sold was rated 3 ton but people are having towbars tear holes in them with only a 1.5 ton load. Nissan`s navara was snaping towbars as well.
I had a ford ba work ute that blew a gearbox from over heating and it only towed 1.6 ton most of the time(not to mention warped discs)

I think most of them are over rated just for there add campaigns.

Maybe if you were to tow at something like 90kph on open highway they would be right but stop start city and off road work will kill em.

From the Mitsubishi brochure:

2300kg (with brakes) for the 4x4 models.
1800kg for the 2WD.

You could be right, maybe vehicles are only as good as there drivers, in heavy
traffic and off road.

Daz,
Yeah I am not gentle on my work cars, self employed in the building industry with have a dozen staff will do that. Taking gear job to job I do tend to be in a hurry(days are never long enough) so mabye I expect to much or they over rate them :/
