Hi Guys,
I'm new to this site and relatively unfamiliar with Fraser Island.
We have around 8 blokes heading up for a week in October to near Ocean Lakes, camping on the beach.
We're planning on taking my GU Patrol, a LWB Challenger and possibly a Hilux ute.
Do you guys have any tips that might save us from some grief?
Cheers
Lee

Hi Mulisha....
Fraser Island is a paradise!! We have camped there in October and it is a great time of year!
As with any sand driving, tyre pressures are the key. I run our tyres, GQ Patrol and Cavalier camper trailer, all at 18 psi and haven't had any problems so far. We were there in January and the sand was very very soft, so momentum is important. If you feel like the truck is starting to bog, stop! Select reverse and back up a bit then get a bit more momentum and you should be ok. Indian Head is a very soft track, again keep the momentum up and you will be ok.

Other things to be aware of ....... have all your recovery gear, snatch strap, rated shackles and dampener for the strap..... most important bit of recovery kit is a shovel!
Read the Parks and Wildlife Info brochures and stick to them! Not only for your own good, but everyone elses as well. Don't pet/feed/play with the dingoes, don't leave rubbish or food around your camp, it isn't just the dingoes that nick your food or rubbish, there are other critters that do as well.

And remember the Eastern Beach is a gazetted road, as are a lot of the inland tracks, no speeding, no drink driving etc.... there are police over there.

You will have a great time there, it is a brilliant place to visit.

Cheers

As long as you are going outside school holidays, there should be plenty of space at Ocean Lake.
Just make sure you follow the advice (to the letter!) from the rangers about dingos. The fines are heavy and could ruin your trip.

Hi Mulisha
We were there for new years eve, loved it big time and will be back there one day.
Just look out for blue bottles on the beach, remember the surf can be loud so kids and fishermen/women may not hear cars coming, itt's a great place you'll love it.
Cheers Steve.
