G'day all,
Just to let you know about some access to the 'High Country' in Gippsland. Family and I headed off last Friday via Marathon Road to
camp on the Moroka River. We passed a few road crews who were just finishing opening Marathon Road and we stopped and spoke to each crew.
The DSE crews were friendly and welcoming. As I mentioned, they were just finishing the final touches and the road was open.
After getting up to Moroka Road and setting up
camp a DSE patrol called in for a chat. They advised us that Tamboritha Road was closed still (we couldn't return
home via
Licola) and may be open in a week or two. Horseyard Flat was open which we checked out on our way
home a few days later - yes,
the hut survived, as did the 'long-drop'.
We then returned
home via Marathon Road.
I spoke to friends who went 'the other way' and camped at
Talbotville the same weekend. They mentioned a lot of tracks open - a lot more than the south side around
Licola. The DSE crews are still working flat out to have a lot more open for the
Easter weekend - hopefully they get it done by my 'Boy's Trip' in May/June....
Just something for info if anyone is intending heading off in the near future. I can recommend contacting the DSE at Briagolong or Heyfield for closures north of Briagolong/
Licola or
Dargo DSE for their patch.

Thanks Tim
I just might have to take a couple of days off work and wander up to the Avon area for a bit of solace
