Hi All,

Does anybody have information on current track conditions on the Canning Stock Route. Pat and I thought we would take advantage of the permits coming in May by going there now, well next week. Just trying to find out if there were any effects from Cyclone ?George.

Thanks

I just googled George and had a look at his Track Map. After crossing the coast and heading basically South, he then swept more Southeast as a rain bearing depression. That will have taken him right over the CSR. I think your being a wee bit hasty going this soon after a cyclone, but to be sure, ring the Bureau of Meteorology and ask them where the rain fell. Also ring the relevent Shires for info.

Halls Creek had 16mm 1 - 16 March
Wiluna same period 6mm

Have a look at the BOM Rainfall map for 1 - 16 March

BOM link

Hope that helps.

Good work DIO. I see from that rainfall map that between Wiluna and Halls Creek they either had between 50 and 100mm of rain or 100 and 200mm of rain. I definitely wouldn't be going out there for a while.

I have done the CSR a number of times and usually around July and each time it still has boggy patches.
Bear in mind 20 mm of rain may not sound like much but the huge catchement area means metres of water gushing around in creeks and gullies, Savory Creek would have to be impassable at the moment.
Its far to early to go yet.
