Put my 50l waeco into my camper (2/35amp hr batteries) and when the error light comes on, supposedly batteries down to 10.4 amps, but when I
check the batteries with a meter they still show 12 v. What's going on?.

What size wiring have you got to the socket? The Waeco needs 6mm minimum.

I use the standard socket and wiring that came with fridge?. Maybe I should
check the wiring from the camper socket to the batteries?.

Gday,
Not all, but most of the problems with waecos seem to be the power source and usually your lead or your wiring from the battery back to your plug.
Make sure you use a decent plug, not the cigatette type usually supplied,
check all your connections (see if they get hot) and make sure the wire your running from your battery to your plug is heavy enough.
cheers

How many volts on the meter when the Waeco is running?

Bo,
Good advice from Brewman and Hairy. Should be able to find heaps in the archives on this problem, but a couple of points.
The 10.4v cut out is voltage at the compressor, which actually equates to about 11.4v at the batteries,
Check wiring and plugs as suggested, you can't go too heavy, and
If you haven't had it done, call Waeco and have them replace the poly fuse (warranty job). This is a recognised problem with the AC models and will cause exactly the problem you are describing.
Cheers,
Matt.

Hi big bo
If all else fails and you need to contact Waeco, the number of flashes and/or the sequence becomes important. They can sometimes read from this as to what the problem is.
Cheers

Mine has been a little "iffy" too at times - been thinking that the contacts might be a bit dusty - when it does get cranky, I get a single flash every 5 secs on the error light (low voltage) - if using a meter to
check supply levels in the Waeco cable or at the battery, you need to do that while the compressor is running. As you may have observed, even if it thinks the voltage is too low, it will run for a short time before it goes to error - need to assess voltage then.

Big Bo,
As stated by Matt, the polyfuse is the problem. Ring Waeco and get it changed under warranty. The standard fuse is, I think 5amp, and the fridge can sometimes exceed 5amp depending on ambient temp and so on. They will put a higher amperage fuse in there (8 or 9amp) fuse and it will work fine. When the error occurs remove the plug from the hella socket and feel the tip, it will be very warm. I had
mine changed to a 9amp poly fuse and have never had the problem since. The fridge works better as
well, reaching temp quicker and when I removed the plug the tip was cool.
Best way of determining if the polyfuse is faulty is to turn fridge on (12v) and press the turbo button. After about a minute or two in turbo mode the error light will flash and the compressor stops yet the cooling fan still runs. When you plug into 240v it will work fine because the 240v plug is really a 24v adaptor. When running 24v it halves the amperage being used by the fridge.

Hi,
I have seen a number of instance where this is caused by the two pin plug in to the side of the fridge. You can
test it by givining it a wiggle, when it is running
well, and if it is bad, it will go to error when you wiggle it. Fix is to get a new power cable. It may only show up when you have a slightly lower voltage, because the current is higher to get the same power that the fridge requires.

There is a switch on the side near the plug socket "Hi and Low" set it to low. Ours did the same on 12 V until the Waeco dealer put us straight.

I have a 6oltr and although I have had no probs, I cut up my lead ( after reading different posts in here ) and soldered in new wires ( 6mm2 ) from the plug ( at the fridge ) and put an inline fuse folder ( 7.5 A spade fuse ) right near the new jaycar hella type plug ( jaycar has a better negative contact)...
It runs off the side socket of the KK with no probs ( as said above, set the switch to low )
Are you running it off the KK or from the back of the 4x4 ??

Sorry, didn't read your question properly, delete the question about where your running it from...
The readings I get from my KK when 1st using it are 12.7 or 12.8 even with the fridge running ..
After 3 full days ( I have 4 x 35ah batts ) I still get 12V with the fridge running... mind you this is at the socket on the side of the KK, not at the fridge( think you would have to take off a panel or something to measure it at the fridge !! )
12V is 70+ % flat !! What reading are you getting with no fridge and the KK batts supposedly full ??
