Has anyone got any ideas of good camping spots hopefully with a creek or swimming spot for the school holidays - with a fun 4wd track thrown in? I was looking at the NSW national parks, maybe the Border Ranges National Park at the top of NSW, or the Whian Whian (Minyon falls) area.
We are now living at the Sunshine Coast, but new to this part of QLD, so any ideas to travel 3-4 hours from here with 4 kids to go camping in an offroad camper trailer would be good to hear from you...
Cheers
Liz and Dave

Border Ranges has some beautiful scenery, particularly from
The Pinnacles lookout and camping over the west side is nice as
well. Down past
Beaudesert on (I think) Kerry Road is a couple of nice spots,
Darlington Park and Christmas Creek. The Old
Grafton Road between
Grafton and Glenn Innes is also a nice scenic drive, and the camping spots at
Dalmorton and Mann River are pretty good as
well.
Cheers

Hi
I read you post and was wondering if you could tell me more about the camping spots at mann river and
dalmorton. We are just nth of Coffs and looking for a nice spot to
camp for a couple of days over
easter near a river and not too far from
home ( avoiding traffic).
We are tenting it and have two dogs. Dont want any hairy off raod trips just a relaxed weekend near the river somemwhere nearby.
Kind Regards Lenni

Hi Lenni,
Mann River Nature Reserve and the camping ground near
Dalmorton in the Guy Fawkes National Park are quite pretty spots, although both are national park and don't allow dogs unfortunately. The Old
Grafton Road is a gazetted 2wd road, so is not difficult at all, and is worth the trip for the
views of the rivers etc.
We will be going there as
well at
easter, might see you there!
Cheers
Brian

Rover Park near
Tenterfield, Crooked Creek
camping area in the Garda
State Forest NSW it's free, about 9k south of Rover Park, a tip when you drive into Crooked Creek there's a track to the left take that and then right over the old wooden
bridge.
The Springs 4x4 park at
Warwick is another.
Just some i know of.
Baz.

Hi Dave - have a look at post 42988 - lists quite a few. Just type the number 42988 in the 'Post find' box on the top LHS of the
forum index page.
Also , have a look at '
Bunya Mountains' about 3hrs west, and Lake Monduran a few hrs north. No doubt you have been to Charlie Moreland at Kenilworth.
Most Qld Nat parks must be booked on line - also has listings of all the parks - Site Link

Be aware that most of the campsites in the Border Ranges National park, and most other National parks too, don't cater for camper trailers. They all have those stupid bollards in place, keeping cars and trailers out...

There's the 14 river crossings at Killarney (or The Head). You can
camp in a few spots by the river, or there's a nice caravan park at Queen Mary Falls up in the hills around Killarney. Should be fine for camper trailer and is a gravel road mostly, with 14 river crossings (may not be suitable for trailer if it has rained as the river rises rapidly after rain). Information about 14 river crossings here
There's also
Sundown National Park, near
Ballandean, which is near
Stanthorpe. It's quite a bit harder than the 14 river crossings but I've seen camper trailers go in and out successfully. More information here or you could
check out a trip report from the Qld Mitsubishi Club to get more info.
There's plenty more information about both of these spots - just google them!
