Hi all,
In keeping with the need for maximum sun protection - and since it's time for a change - we are about to launch a new range of ExplorOz hats. I've finally found a really nice style that is lightweight, completely collapsable so no creases when we mail it out to you, and no damage caused if you sit on it, pack it in a bag etc, and it is breathable, comes in lots of sizes including kids, and even 2 colours options khaki, and navy.

We have come up with the following design, as a variation of the use of our logo and interested in your feedback for carrying this across to all our clothing range....

Do you like it? Interested in your feedback. Note - our "Use Australian" policy, means we don't buy the hats in from China in lots of 5 million, so we don't have the option of having the design screened as many surf-style hats are (a very expensive option). Although the designs can be really great if screened in comparison to embroidery, we can't have anything very complicated and so have kept this design to two colours for stitching simplicity etc.!MPG:17!!MPG:17!

Caught me out - I hit the Add Members Gallery photo button twice! ha ha, can't use my own system properly. I will complain to the software designer that I didn't see a message when I clicked it to confirm that it had done it, so I clicked it twice.

Thanks Michelle,

I thought maybe you had another colour to display.....and couldn't edit the post to reflect this (just another sheepish stab at the lack of edit features).

Just a quick question....will they be available in different sizes, especially smallish for kids and largish for, well, my fat head. :-)

5 sizes from 55cm - 62cm I think. The 55cm is tiny and suits little kids. The 62cm is for big heads like my David and other big men!

Michelle,

There's "nothing wrong" with the Logo, but it is not THE LOGO everyone is familiar with. A change of logo should be just that, a change. No old one any more.

Me, I prefer the existing Logo. It is simple and unique.
If you issue "multiple" logos you run the risk of confusion.

As for the Hat. Good for kids I guess, but it reminds me of every Australian Schoolyard where everybody must wear the hat when "exposed" to sunlight.
I would feel like a gongbeater in one myself.

Take this as constructive comment. Just don't change the ExplorOz Cap.
Caps are a blokey thing and don't get in the way while driving.

Thanks for your feedback - do you have an EO cap by the way? We were thinking of keeping both designs for those that still like the cap. Our supplier however is telling us that suede peak caps are out of fashion now - do people still like them, or want us to find a plain navy cap instead or have other ideas, there are lots of base model caps we can choose, we just put our logo on them.

Sorry Sandman - didn't finish my reply. I understand your comment as I know you are in this trade. It's not meant to replace the logo, but be a variation for our clothing range to make it more wearable and likeable. Your feedback highlights our own internal concerns on doing this however, hence this post. We were concerned our current logo on a hat was a bit like a target. Does anyone think this? Or are you all happy to see the logo on the clothing/wheel covers as is.

Will be a match for the grandchildren who wear this style at their school and as an "oldie" who is fast loseing his ears to operations for sun cancer I think that we should ALL be wearing hats rather than caps which quite coincidentally were the cause of my problems in the first instance.
Logo looks good

Price is right.

Michelle,

Do I have a Cap?

I'm on my second because the original became somewhat faded and didn't look "dressy" enough. Both still comfortable though and even the older one looks far better than Pesty's tattered excuse for a lid.

Out of fashion........never. A bloke and his favourite Cap become inseparable.

Current logo a target?
Well I'm still alive. Haven't been shot, or hit on the Cap (head) with a baseball bat, or even had it pinched.

As for skin cancers. I always apply plenty of SPF 30+ sunblock to the lugholes and frontal beak, regardless of what I'm wearing.
I also own an Akubra, but it's useless inside a car. The brim hits the seat headrest and just generally gets in the way.
Now the Cap is different. There's plenty of room between the Cap's peak, or visor and anywhere else so it tends to stay on inside the vehicle.

As well as the ExplorOz Cap and a sticker on the rear window of the Jack, I have an ExplorOz wheel cover over the spare wheel on the back of the Camper. Maybe just because I'm a member, I like a little indication of "belonging" and a subtle promotion of ExplorOz when I travel.

Now I have digressed somewhat. I think the wide brimmed collapsible hat will be great addition to the range of products available through the shop and will suit many people who may choose it over a Cap.

Michelle I dont think the existing logo is like a target, I like it, its got a pic of Oz on it and its recognisable. A really smart (read highly OVER paid) marketing dude told me once that its not the detail of a logo its the recognisability, so the Macca golden arches or the coca cola red square with a white bit thru it it the recognisable thing.

A circle with a stylised map of Oz in it is ours (yours oops, we are all part of this hahahaha)

So I like it on the stickers and the tyre covers and the hat and the shirt et al.

The logo on my Khaki polo shirt has been subjected as a target.
My 5 month old daughter has just been infatuated with it. i.e. she was just sitting on my lap when she grabbed the logo and stuck it in her mouth, resulting in one very wet logo. Every time I tried to stop her she'd just pull herself back up to the sitting position so that she could suck on the logo.

So I think the original logo should stay as my kids love it. ha ha
How long before we can get our hands on them??

That's the other good thing about this cap - it is very reasonably priced so I think we are looking at bringing it out for just under $15. Note - unlike the school yard hats, it is made from microfibre, not the heavy brushed cotton. Honestly, its a really nice hat and feels nice to wear.

Michelle, they look good and have been a believer for some time that the EO cap should only be one option. I was told by a specialist years ago "you Victorians think they are exempt from skin cancer on the ears" . I was advised to watch for that. We aren't watching enough.

On the logo, the original logo is fine by me. I don't feel a target or that my head would be. The price doesn't look bad either.... Order mine in the khaki thanks....

Me too, I think the logo (top left of screen) looks good, more modern and sophisticated, but the old one like on the sticker is a bit outdated. It's a bit like the old Commonwealth Bank map of OZ to the new modern one depicting the southern cross. The one on the hat looks good, I like the hill depiction. Just my thoughts, although this is not a thread on the logo as much as the hat which looks good and seems to be excellent value. Baseball hats these days are losing fashion interest because they allow the ears and back of the neck to be burnt to a crisp.

D-Jack,

Now I'm confused mate.

The logo at top left of screen is the one that has been around for yonks and is the same as the one on the sticker.

What do I like about the current logo.

It plainly depicts that ExplorOz is a Web site. That's all people need to know to be able to connect and be "infected", or should that be affected, afflicted, or corrupted.

See Ya!

I also prefer the new logo and it would look good on a cap as well. I would have ordered a cap when I renewed my membership last week if they were available.

I prefer a cap to wear however I nearly always wear a wide brimmed hat when out doors in the sun but when in the car, the cap is the prefered option.

IMO for what its worth.

Yes - just Navy and Khaki (dark olive green). I have one in the office but it is not made up, the supplier did the mock up on the navy only.

The idea is that if you choose the light khaki shirt from our clothing range, you'd match it with the khaki (dark olive green) hat, but if you choose any of the other shirts (plain navy polo, or the navy & white sports shirts) that you'd team this with the navy slouch hat (or if you prefer, the navy and suede peaked cap).

Khaki to me is a light browny colour not a dark olive green, I envisage British Racing Green is dark olive green.

Washable? Yes - it's made of microfibre. Just like many of the surf hats around now. The brim is not stiffened - this was a big criteria for me when looking for a suitable style, unlike the school hats and nasty things you see in the chemist - we felt they might get creased in the mail as we have to fold them up to fit in the post bags and quality control during shipping is important to us. We also want to keep the postage cost as low as possible for you - so they are lightweigth - with mesh areas in the sides, and fully foldable, collapsable, scrunchable etc.

There is no difference in our pricing for colour changes in embroided logos. It's a set price based on number of thousand stiches- irrespective of thread changes.

Hi Michelle

Slouch hat = great idea for extra cover, Durable etc
Logo. Your current logo is distinct but the wording in a circle, well ! I'm just not keen on it, upside down 'com'
New Logo is more straight forward and is easier to depict as a web site.

Is the logo and top the only part filled and the rest is mesh to allow max' ventilation?
1 of each colour pls, I'm from Tassie

Hi Michelle,
I like the hat. I have a range of hats for different reasons and I like the collapsible type.

I don't like caps myself for the "american baseball" influence and I like to remove my hat when not in the sun (unlike most cap wearers). Each to their own though.

I like the "clothing" biased logo you are presenting and it goes well with the "standard" logo. So long as you don't mix the two uses, you are fine to have an alternative without watering down the branding you have built up.

As mentioned above, I find an Akubra difficult in the car but a collapsible works well as the brim is usually softer and doesn't get in the way. Either way I am not really a "hat driver" so it doesn't matter.

I may soon become a member and I am keen to get the new proposed hat. I'll just wait a bit to see what you end up with.

Cheers Cam

Michelle you could sew the current round logo into the top of the hat so it can be seen from the air too.

Hi Michelle,
I think the second design is better than that at the top (first post) I for sure will get 1 or 2 when they are available, I wear that type of hat when outside in the sun all the time, very comfortable and protection for neck and ears. Would prefer the slouch hat over the cap everytime. I look forward to them being made available.

Its all personal taste really.

I can remember at least two years ago saying I thought the old logo was a bit outdated in its looks and needed a bit of jazzing up.

I like the last modification to the new logo and I think it would lend itself better to hats, shirts, stickers etc.

Of course the old "target" style is perfect in shape for the spare wheel cover.

Having two logo's is not really a problem as I see it as the key in my opinion is the circle and map and that is in both.

A lot of the major brands have more than one logo but still retain a commom thing. Toyota indeed have many logo's but we all know its Toyota.

Love it.

As for all those fellows above ranting on about the hat getting in the way while they're driving; it's not sunny in the car, or have you all got sun-roofs ;-)))

Hiya,

I do like the hat and the logo from the revised pic.

I like the way that the .com bit is pretty prominent at the frontof the "hill". My only suggestion would be to have a complementary "www." in the space above the E

This would really enhance the web aspect of it.

Cheers
