Hello to one and all,
Has anyone had much to do with Googles GMail?
Is it similar to Hotmail?
Reason for question is if one is travelling this great country of ours and may not be in a position to be permanently signed up to an ISP, could Gmail or Hotmail be an alternative so you can keep your same address.
Not sure if I've explained myself real
well, hopefully people out there can read between the lines.
Your thoughts, comments and ideas would be appreciated.
Regards and Thanks in advance

Yes, Gmail is very similar to Hotmail in that your address never changes and you can access it anywhere that you can get onto the Internet - so your mail is effectively 'portable'. More storage available with Gmail as
well and I'd highly recommend it.
Might be worth checking too, if you do have a permanent ISP account many of them offer webmail access similar to Gmail - downside is you still need to pay your access fee regardless of if you use the Internet through it or not, whereas Gmail is always free.

Dave thanks for the reply, I checked my emails with the link you provided, yep, works fine.
One question though, to be able to use this facility you would still have to have an account with an ISP, which means a monthly account or some other variant, would that be correct?
I was thinking more along the lines of having one of of those free addresses and just accessing it through public or private internet facilities.
Any other thoughts and ideas would be much appreciated.
Thanks & Regards

It can be a good idea to have one of these free email addresses. You can give your free email address out in a public
forum and if you get a heap of spam just ditch it. Only give your normal isp email address to people that you trust.

Dave Thompson is on the money here.... just use www.mail2web.com,
put in your regular email and password and you can
check your email from anywhere in the world. Saves mucking about with a new email address. I've been using it for years to filter out any spam that comes through.
Cheers
Brian
