Hello,

Just went to Alco Battery Sales and asked for a price on an 80 AH deep cycle battery for my brother in laws caravan Deep Cycle AGM Battery with a 12 month warranty

Apparently made in China. Has anyone ever heard of this brand and if so, what are they like.

Must admit, I am a little "scepticle" of all this unknown brand made in China stuff.

Sorry to say you'll just have to get used to it.

Almost impossible to buy anything made anywhere else now.

We've just bought a lounge suite and a TV unit - you guessed it, made in china.

Apparently Aussie timbers are shipped to China, furniture is made, finished article is shipped back complete and still cheaper than can be built here.

I currently have a Chinese AGM battery in the car and Camper, both perform perfectly. In years gone by, I have had many Aussie made batteries that have failed.

Hi,

I used to sell electric scooters before I sold up to enjoy life.

I dealt with Alco. They had "DeepRiver" brand and also their own brand. DeepRiver had a very good reputation throughout our industry, so I insisted that Alco only sold me this brand.
Very few problems with DeepRiver.

What is wrong with "made in China"?

It wasn't that long ago that made in Japan was considered to be an indication of an inferior product, now it is considered to be a pemium product.

Forty or so years ago the Japs started cloning products from elsewhere, such as watches and soon established themselves.

A lot of Chinese stuff is made of the same components as everywhere else, just with cheaper labour.

Probably nothing wrong, but I was sceptical when Japanese stuff started coming on the market and I was sceptical when Korean stuff started coming on the market, and I am sceptical now of the Chinese stuff that is on the market.

The Chinese seem to have more stuff than ever being dumped on our shores than the Japanese ever did.

Anyway, you are probably right, but all I am asking is for 1st hand experience with this brand.

Alloy,

I'll just check,,,,,,,,,yep, we're all talking about batteries, except you it seems.

Perhaps Optima didn't make that nasty, nasty man, G.W. Bush but they do make good batteries.

Lemme see,

- China, excellent food - terrible human rights record.

- Great Britain, top quality legal system, invented democracy - biggest colonial thugs the world's ever seen.

- Germany, make great cars, good fast roads, but remember Adolf Hitler?

- Australia, the greatest country in the world in which to live - colluded with the USA and allowed and Indonesia to invade and terrorise East Timor.

See "Alloy", I can do it too. Every country in the world is hypocritical or a contradiction of some kind in one way or another.

But we're talking BATTERIES, not about MAKING WAR or POLITICS!!

Sheeshus!!~

Bilbo ,was simply a statement of fact that just because something is ' made in the US of A' that it is not necessarily the best , ,, if that WAS the case how come you and Roachie still for all intents and purposes have a Nissan ?? yes modified but still Japanese , why not if the Us of A product is the "best" are you pair not in a fully made Detroit yank tank ?? why ?? Stir the waters and the fish rise to the bait.

Please don't get upset with alloy, or as he used to call himself "The Undertaker" until he got run off the forum for being foul.

He had to change his "name" to avoid further ridicule.

Don't be too hard on him, he suffers from a severe medical condition........

Its medical name and diagnosis is this.........

50 kW brain, 200 kW mouth.

Alloy,

You said:

",,,,,,,Bilbo ,was simply a statement of fact that just because something is ' made in the US of A' that it is not necessarily the best ,,,,,,,,,"

I didn't say that did I? Go back and read it again.

I didn't say Optima were the best - don't put words in my mouth - I merely offered the Optima battery as viable but expensive alternative to Chinese made batteries.

Simple. No ulterior motive. Just a simple recommendation from a 4WD owner that's used Optima and found it to be a robust battery.

I know of many goods made in the USA that are the best. I also know of goods made in the USA that are not very good.

What's is your problem here? One minute we're all exchanging views about our experiences with batteries and the next we're in a political and slightly personal shizerfight with you!!

Oh yes, and I don't answer questions or have to justify my decisions about my choices in anything, including cars,,,,,,unless I want to.

I can feel a Rumpole coming on,,,,,,,,,

You're such a goose alloy.

I can't be bothered suing you. Your slander has been ignored by everyone I know here. Hence your lies don't bother me.

In the words of a learned friend "You are an unmnitigated, incorrigable and habitual liar".

Grow up young fella.

ROFLMAO.
