I spotted and new 7# ? series cruiser today and IMHO, YUK!
this was a four door V8 4500 D4-D,gxl, and looks like the old prado(the model that toyota did NOT import to AUS) pre 90 series prado
IT didn't have the same high roof that the troopy has and in fact I think it is a lot smaller than a 100 series(interior space),live front axle with coils.springs at the back
When looked at from the back and sides it looks like a mid wheel base 70 sereis from the mid 1980's,and front looks like some-one has found a heap of early 100 series nose cones and thought....I know what I can do with these
Time will tell if there any good or not,I have no idea about engine/driveline performance/dynamics and I'm giving this opinion based strickly on look's

I'll sit back and watch the stampede from a distance, and still remain a toyo-ite

Keep them ugly I say if that's what's needed to make them practical & reliable :-)
The 7? was never meant to be as big as the 100, the dimentions being closer to the 80 series. (A far more sensible width car in the bush)
Cheers Craig.........

When the 80 series came out I also thought yuk - but these things tend to grow on you.

Doug

Definately have no probs with the reliability of the cruisers mate.....just stating that in my opinion i think they are a rather ugly looking vehicle....but thats just my opinion , im sure others will disagree, if we all agreed on the same thing it would be a rather boring world...wouldnt it???.......cheers ........Dave

P.S....love my Patrols , but must admit the old G60 and MQs were ugly also, and i even owned one of them

You can bet your last dollar that Toyota has done their homework on trhe new models and that they will be aroumd for a very long time like all of the previous models. If looks is your judge then there isa big choice of plastic vehicles around that foot the bill. The true offroad vehicles whether Toyota or Nissan are built for a purpose and I don't think looks is a big deciding issue.

I agree Rambler, I started a big type fight a couple of weeks ago when I posted info on the Dodge Nitro which is going to be on sale here soon if not already, this bloke was acting like a fool all over looks, I don't mind the look of the Nitro and once again I also don't care if it's made in USA , so was the original 48/215 and tested around Detroit,

They all said the new Hilux was ugly when it 1st came out.! Well faarrk me it is now the 3 top selling vehicle in Australia..! Yes thats No: 3 after the new Commodore etc. So it may take time for some people to adjust to the new looks or for the new looks to grow on you.! Toyota asthetics aside though, the vehicle will sell itself because of it's reputation and reliable history.

yet to see on e in the flesh but pictures would indicate thay have softened the fron panelling decreasing its bush toughness now only in the same leage as patrols. The much derided (by people that want them to lokok good out the front of the latte shop) front gaurds were actually tough as hell as they presented little area to tough scrub and had 5 folds over a smal area giving them the toughness to drive where bulldozers fear to tread.
The new one seems to have station wagon style gaurds and is fater making i more 100 seris style and we all know how hopless they are out bush - too wide with too much exposed sheet metal with not enough bends

Leaving it ugly wont make it any better off-road than making it look good! I think Toyota were just lazy. Keep costs down, Australians will still buy it.
