Bushfire Relief and Re-opening assistance
Hi All,
Many clubs are already involved in relief efforts for bushfire affected areas, and many other clubs have expressed an interest in getting involved. Please find below a number of activities that require volunteer efforts for the weeks prior to
Easter. It is expected that many more projects will arise post
Easter and into May. We apologise for the short notice, however any volunteer assistance would be greatly appreciated as it benefits the communities we rely on and furthers the goodwill 4WD'rs have become renowned for.
Heyfield Area (24/25th March and/or 30/1 April)
MacAlister, Butcher Country, Caledonia and Howitt Roads - These tracks have had machines through, but clubs could assist with any follow up
clearing (not expected to be much), assess missing signs and report on any issues that need fixing. This would provide a suitable weekend loop and club members would need to be experienced to be able to tackle these difficult tracks. Would need to attend a briefing at 3 pm at Heyfield on the Friday. Contact will be Peter
Lawrence to make arrangements. Please direct enquiries to Zac on (03) 9857-5209 or research@fwdvictoria.org.au
Mansfield Area (24/25th March and/or 30/1 April)
The project will require volunteers to drive selected tracks within a designated area to
check for missing or burnt signage, and mark signs required on a map. This will provide very useful information to enable signs to be ordered sooner and will enable Club members access to otherwise closed areas. Volunteers could also report on other issues that they see. Ideally would require a briefing on the Friday afternoon, but because of the nature of the project the briefing could be done by phone. Please direct enquiries to Zac on (03) 9857-5209 or research@fwdvictoria.org.au
Rural Relief - Tatong (24/25th March)
The Wangaratta 4WD Club is urgently requesting assistance for next weekend March 24/25 March for a
farm in the Tatong fire area. The
farm is owned by
John Knapper and he needs assistance with removing wire from burnt fences. Access to the area requires 4WD probably including low range. If a club wants to offer assistance, but cannot offer it this weekend, offers of assistance for another weekend will certainly be welcomed. Please direct enquires and offers to Craig Cheetham at the Wangaratta Club, phone 0428 538478.
Rural Relief - Toongabbie and Cowwar (31st March)
Latrobe City Council are assisting local Lions and Rotary Clubs to clean up the Toongabbie and Cowwar fire areas that have been affected by the recent bushfires and are hoping that FWDV clubs would be able to help with a clean up day for Saturday 31 March, beginning at 8.30 AM. They require about 18 people with 5 four wheel drive vehicles (preferably with
winches), 3-2 trailers and chainsaws.
If any club can help, please call Steve Tong at
Latrobe City Council on 0407862870
Kind regards,
Zac Powell
