I have been doing some searching for any information about Tracks4Australia on the web. I did find a helpful .pdf file about the software that I'm sure you all will find very interesting, You will be able to find it on my Map and GPS webpage , right down the bottom in big green text ,After it opens you can save a copy to your PC by clicking the little floppy disc icon near the top left corner ( save a copy )

One can't help but love Garmin GPS units.

Hi Doug,
are you on their Yahoo List...

Site Link

The idea is that you contribute tracks that you have travelled and they may be included in the next generation of the software.

Hi Doug

Tracks4Australia , is something I use a lot by itself not with a GPS

It is one of few ways you can end up with a free Australia wide Mapset of Tracks.

After some opposition I found that you can download a free viewer - which even has the capability of auto-reading you gps and placing cursor on the current map position.

Being vector based you can zoom all around the place without Ozi-explorer type limitations.

It sits on my laptop in car as a backup reference.

The free version is basically line drawing of tracks - there is a pro version with contours - think $50.

Whats more with the above you can add you own tracks , but its a bit of work.

If you wish to go further it gets complex but in the end you can upload you own mapset to your garmin gps.

Have been thinking of writing a note about whole process , but as per above posts
if you are Yahoo member and join group then there is info on the site.

Yes your right about the Ozi-explorer , limitations, I don't like limitations, I have T4A Pro alongside the Garmin Mapsource on my Nuvi and if I end up in an area that Mapsource has no tracks as was the case when I went to Dalgaranga Meteor Crater then I just swich over to T4A , the screen is big, bright and easy to read, I think there will be a huge future for T4A, they have it compatible for the best gps units on the market, as I have stated before ,I get amused when people go and buy a peice of crap like Navman when they are heading for the CSR or SD or the Cape, If you own a Daewoo Matiz and deliver Pizza in a big city then get a Navman , thats my opinion on them,
