Well it's 4 years old now and never used to pump up more than 4 tyres at once and even that not more than a few times a year, other than that bicycle tyres and footballs.
When I bought it the guys at OP said it would last longer than me,
well it hasn't.
It looks pretty simpe in construction so do compressors just die at some stage like all electrical motors.
1. Have checked against a number of fully charged batteries.
2. Have checked external and internal (
well just back section off) soldered connections.
Finally, it never sparked, no blew up nor spat any dummy, just silence, nothing.
For what it cost I will take it back to OP but any other suggestions welcome.

Find someone with a multi meter and see if its an electrical problem. It might be a cut out switch that has failed.

Porl,
When I was looking at getting a compressor, which like you would mainly be used for pushbikes, footys and the 4x4 I couldn't justify paying the prices they ask for the big name brand ones. I just bought one from Big W that looks identical to the Bushranger Air Max. It only cost $88 and pumps like crazy. I tried it on the 4x4 from 16psi up to 35 psi and it took less than 2 minutes.
Sorry for rambling on and not solving your problem but do yourself a favour and get one of these. They come with 12 month guarantee (if it plays up just take it back and they give you another or your money back) which I'm sure would not be the case with the name brands.
By te way, I've had
mine for 2 years now and it has never faulted.
Good luck with OP
Rob

I guarantee my Bluetongue will out class, out perform, out blow, whatever you like to call it your $88 Big W pump any day. I'm not saying they don't perform, but it's a bit rude to tell someone to change over from a heavy duty, continuous rated Thomas compressor pump for a cheapie
supermarket job. Try inflating two sets of 4x4 tyres from 12 psi-38 psi with yours, see what happens.

Djack,
If I were going to use the compressor, say weekly or even fortnightly, to pump up 4x4 tyres from the pressures you state then yes I would go for a mor'heavy duty' item like the air conditioner compressor type. But as stated, for bike tyres, footy and occasional use on 4x4 the bigw one does the job fine. It has all the same specs as the Bushranger 72lpm, carry bag, filter and so on.
The most work it has done in one hit was reinflating 2 4wd's from 20psi to 35psi without a problem. The thermal overload did not even kick in after doing that.
Telling Porl of a good compressor that will staisfy his requirements at a good price is not being rude, it's just a bit of advice. Maybe your bluetongue will out class, perform & blow the cheapie. But so it should, it probably cost 500% more!

Just to put a few myths to bed the Blue Tounge 3 doesn't out blow the cheap Bushranger copy, & yes they will blow 2 sets of tyres up consecutively. The Cheap copy although it looks the same & is rated the same certainly isn't inside & when used side by side the Bushranger actually pumps just a little more. The Bushranger comes with a 5 year warrenty & all the top brands at least 12 months so replacement should the compressor chit it's self is a requirement of all brands.
Both compressors do the job they're designed for
well but suggesting the $88 as a replacement is probably stretching things a bit. It may not have turned out in this example but for reliability & longevity the Blue tongue is normally excellent, I know if I needed to rely on a pump out central Oz which one I'd take with me.
Out of interest Jack how does one compressor "outclass" another?? Is that like a Range Rover is classier than a Landcruiser? ;-))
Cheers Craig............

I have just returned from a 25 day trip where I used my 5 year old Bluetoung III every day (sometimes twice a day) to inflate all tires on two vehicles and two trailers in very hot conditions (38 to 49C) it is slow but kept going.
We also had a "Megga Pump" which was heaps faster but would cut out from heat after usually two tires on a hot day.
However have also heard of a new Bluetoung 4 that keeps cutting out when hot.
Will keep my old one going as long as I can.

My Blue Tongue 3 is also 4 years of age and working
well. I have used it consistently over the years. Maybe its a minor electrical fault like a loose wire or a burnt out diode.

Thats unusual - it needs to be pulled apart and fixed.
Mine is 6-7 years old and must have reinflated a thousand tyres.

ta Phil
I think so too. It doesn't look particularly complex technology so will get someone to fix it as it does sound fixable rather than the motor being burnt out.
Thanks everyone.
