LEEANNE
We are planning on traveling the CSR mid July.
My question is has anyone done the 12 km round trip - Walking - from
Well 35 to see the glass cones?
If so was it easy to find & easy to walk?

That area has copped quite a bit of rain due to recent cyclones , George & Jacob, you may find that the CSR may be impassible in some areas, deffinitely check with police at
Wiluna.

Don't forget you may need permits from the Traditional Land Owners also by then.
Check the trek notes on here for more info.

well for a lot of the sites off the main route, including Durba Springs the traditional land owners contend that you need the permit from them now.
I suspect this may be debatable, but on the flip side, I am sympathetic for the need for protection and management of a lot of the sites too - it is the WA Government has been recalcitrant in not giving any department responsibility and resources to ensure that could be achieved and which continues to buck pass on the matter.
As a result, we are in the invidious position that there will be some
places you will not be able to visit, even walking. Any alternative would be very insensitive to the feelings of the traditional land owners and potentially make you liable to become a legal precedent for tresspass under Native Title Act eg. "Martu People versus 4WD Bob" - this sort of reputation might not be advisable given the amount of our continent covered by Native Title and for which permission of one sort of other is required.
I understand that the National 4WD association proposal to provide permits to certain areas along the CSR has been agreed upon but that it may not be in place "until the season starts in May".

I've been along the CRS but did not do this walk. At 12km it is probably not a
well travelled path. Even in July it can be quite hot along the CSR and cold overnight. You would want to be confident of navigating your path and being able to return if you loose the path. Even the paths to some of the
well trvelled areas are not
well marked. If you are lucky there may be piles of stones to act as a guide. 12km on a warm day is a fair walk considering the amount of
water you will need to carry. This may also be listed as a heratige area and it is already in a Registered Native Title Determined Area. You may want to contact DIA to find out if any permits are required.

Nice through about the WA Indigenous
Heritage list - now there is a lovely piece of legislation.
If it is not on the list and you think it should be, you are legally required to report it to the registrar or to a police officer within some number of days (15 as I recall).
If it is on the list and is CLOSED or RESTRICTED the registrar won't be able to confirm or deny that it is on the list or even exists except that you're not allowed to go to this mythical place and that you risk fines and imprisonment if you do. Of course they haven't signposted most of the 22,000 surveyed sites yet either, so if you accidentally stumbled on it, you are breaking the law without knowing it.
Wonderful stuff.
