I saw a thread the other day talking about the
Border Track for
Easter.
Just spoke to a sweet
young lady in Parks SA Mallee office. She advised the track is already open and will definitely be open for
Easter.
I asked how much rain (optimist) will be needed before
Easter to close it.
She replied "the
Ranger has just gone on leave so there will be no-one there over
Easter to close it, so it will definitely remain open."
A few leisurely days
camping coming up.
Cheers

I'm sorry but I don't believe it's open now
She may work for them, but like most Govt departments they give out the wrong information. If it comes from the Rangers mouth then I will believe it.

The Track is closed during the Fire ban session.

This track is more often closed by DRY conditions. Yep, the
ranger believes track damage occurs if the conditions are too dry ! Go figure ! It's in a desert isn't it ?
Oh yeah fire is a good excuse also, apparently the one way section of track, which SA Parks implemented, presents a threat to visitor safety as the only direction you can drive COULD be towards the fire ! Be illegal in the event of a fire to flee the wrong way I guess.
Reassuring the place is in such good hands.
