Hi everyone.

"We are travelling along this highway/road/track and would like to know what to see along the way to Darwin from Melbourne" or "We are travelling along a route and would like to know if there are any places we should miss???"

The other question I have is about storing our car and camper in Darwin. My parents were going to drive them home after we fly home to Melbourne but they have been invited to a wedding in USA and think that is a better option. Go Figure. So now we might either have them drive it home some time later or they might fly back after the wedding and pick it up and drive it home.

I notice that there are a few places in Darwin that you can store a car but one of the storage places was asking around $100 per week and not seven sure if it would fit in their shed. I don't really care if it is outside for a couple of months but would like to make sure that it is safe. Surely there are people who fly south for the summer and store stuff up there for quite a long time who might be able to give us the heads up. Probably get only offers to drive our car back for us - NO.

Hard question to answer without knowing what route you are taking from Melbourne to Darwin. If you are going through SA try going through the Flinders Ranges. You could spend weeks in the Flinders. Then consider the Oodnadatta Track as an alternative to the Blacktop. You could then see Lake Eyre, etc.

In the NT you could do a detour and visit Ularu and Kata Tjuta. In the Alice Springs regions there is a lot to see. Don't miss Kings Canyon.

Katherine Region - make sure you see the Katherine Gorge.

Litchfield Nation Park.

Have I missed anything - yes there are Hundreds of places worth seeing?

"Surely there are people who fly south for the summer "

We don't have a summer in the top end. We have a wet and a dry. The wet is the best time of the year. The tourist don't know this and most only come in the dry.

I see you didn't offer to store the van and camper at your place. It would provide a serious upgrade for your place by having a Yota parked in your driveway. LOL
Bad luck that your in Katherine as I can personally vouch for them. They are really nice people.
Andrew, I'll ring a mate in Darwin tonight and see what he can find out.

We have been having a fair bit of rain lately. River got up to about 13.5 metres on Thursday and has fallen a bit since then. It is on 11.35 metres at 20:08 hrs and still falling.

It is a far cry from the riverland where I checked my tanks to see if I had enough rainwater left. Here I check the river levels and tindall radar on the BOM site to see if I have to evacuate to higher ground.

Must be something to see again.

Was looking at pic today of me wallowing in the water down at the Low Level... a favourite place of ours.

You would not be able to wallow in the water at the Low Level at the moment. It is closed and about 10 metres of water over it.

I don't know if you have been to the NT in the wet but it is something to see. Coming up from the Riverland and getting a years rainfall in one day is worth seeing.

There are a few frill necks about so the wet has almost finished.

Hi Tjilpi

Lived in Darwin, Batchelor, Adelaide River for 17 years and Alice Springs for 3 years.

Seen some big fella waters in the wet and have been stuck behind a number of rivers. Also did some memorable wet season trips, such as the boat run from South Alligator Bridge to Cooinda following the paint tins hung in the trees.
Been bogged more times than I care to remember going camping in the wet season

Go to my website www.kempen.id.au, click on 4x4 and then a story called One Day in the Wet.

When the dragonflies come out, the wet is over. You can still get rain however up to the end of April. Have been flooded out in July as well!!!

Many memories

Cheers

Frillies come out at the start of the wet and hide in the top off trees in the dry.

I herd Yamidj the green grasshopper in Hays Creek the other night, so 2 more weeks of the wet, then 2 weeks of dry, then knock em downs, then the dry.

Cheers Steve.
