When we traveled to the desert I used a length of bamboo and got she who must be obyed to sew a flag from red cloth , I then cable tied it to the bull bar . It lasted 3 weeks then disposed of it at birdsville.
All the best
Eric
PS just a thought you could also use a fishing rod .

Tom78,
Opposite Lock store on main south road had them last week, around $120.00. They shut at 3pm today.
Cheers Peter

Tom
Try ETSA for a fibreglass cable speader, vinyl orange or red from the tarp makers and zip ties. Our club sells them to members for $10. Makes the $120 ones a rip off.
We crossed the desert this year and it will still do a lot morework yetAlpaca

Another option on this theme would be to use a piece of electrical conduit (about half inch). It comes with a sleeve at one end. Just cut it down to desired length and it's easy then to store in two sections. I mounted a bracket, (welded base to a short section of pipe), to the spare antenna mount and just slipped the conduit into the pipe and wrapped it up with some duct tape. Covered the french Line OK. Handy bracket for shower too. Attach flag and there you have a cheap option.

Cheapskates! I got one from Opposite Lock in Balcatta in Perth. It's about 2 m long and has a quick release base (like a hydraulic coupling) so I can take it off between 4WD trips. It was quite expensive but it stops me looking like a prat when I'm not in the dunes! Worth every penny if you ask me!
