Hi all,

The Volume Plus has biodiesel blend at 116.9. This sure beats the 128.9 charged by most of the other servos in the area.

I asked how much biodiesel was in it but the register guy didn't know.
Anyway, hope this is useful...

Hi M&M

I'm told (by Nthn Asia console operator/shop attendent) it is Caltex fuel, 70/30dsl. I have been using 2 VP servo's Enfeild, Hume hwy and Mascot, Canal/Gardeners rd. Prices haven't jumped for weeks, $1.14 to $11.6.
I drive direct to the pump nearly every time, no queing. Gotta love that, cheap fuel and no que. Although "I think" I'm a little down on power and economy I'm ok with that. Been running for about 10thou-k now.

Regards
Andy

Be careful using the biod from VP, it can and does vary hugely in quality and what it may have in it. Most will have a power and economy decrease but after a recent experience using it I'll not be buying any biod from VP.
I filled two tanks with it for a recent trip and found that as per usual the power was down but it also smelt 'funny' not the usual takeaway food smell but a strong thinners/chemical type smell that tickled the nostrils.
The big worry though was the greatly increased exhaust temps (the manifolds were glowing) and insulation and wiring under the vehicle was heat affected by the extreme heat from the exhaust.
I've previously run 100 % biod with zero probs but this recent couple of tankfulls from VP were a worry, I won't be buying any more.

Hi Peter

Thanks fro that info. Did you have higher engine temps also?
I took a 200k run on F3 the other week and had very high engine temps while pushing along on the freeway. It was a very hot day 37C.
The return trip was a 28C day and T gauge rose above normal again, not as bad. I did top up with BP, about 50Lt before return trip. Not sure if its something more. Now at 200thou K so big service is due, esp radiator etc.

Andy

As much as I hate to say it VP have some questionable practices - questionable about their legality, and certainly questionable about their quality.

I would have hoped that after a big hue and cry 3-6 months ago, they would have sorted it out ...

Anyways, I am running SAFF Biodiesel (100% available from a number of locations in Adelaide) very successfully.

Cheers
Andrew with a clean 1HZ.

To Bio or not to Bio, that is the question.....
When I can get it I use bio in the Jack, Usually I can get it only along the South Coast don't know of any outlets in the ACT. The stuff I got at Pambula on the Wyndham road seemed to work very well, as did the product I bought in Nowra, neither gave diminshed power, I was actually impressed how well the Jack performed on it. I did get some that I ASSUMED was Bio at Smithfield and it was bad news, cheap but nasty.
I'm amazed that there is no Bio in Canberra as there is a guy here selling "make your own Bio at home" kits. I thought of trying to get a syndicate of likeminded know alls together and get a kit and make our own...LOL I can just see our chief minister hastily compiling legislation to prevent anyone doing this unless he can get in on the act with at least an extensively political TV interview outlining how "HE" managed to draw all the resources together to make this happen, likewise he would also want front page of the CT for similar political propaganda...

I've woken up today with that damned cynics hat on again...
