Good morning to all the well knowledgeably ....formities.....well as we know ...my gq has a 3lt rb30 motor (petrol)...my question is...the alternator.is placed as on a car.....at the bottom.of the motor ....
now i want to move it to higher ground so as not to have drowning problems .when in water......i know someone will have a simple answer for this as its got to have been a problem in the past...so there will be a adaptor plate around to refit it ....but were ????
also with steering....have 3.5 inch lift ....new springs and tuff dawg shocks all round .....castor correction bushes ...but it seems still to walk or wander around ...at speed over 80km .....a real pain on non highway roads ....any suggestiveness on fixing this ...and a good place in perth to go to get front end set up ...as most don't know much apart from what's in a book....
cheers Darren

One Comment Bundy , that model didn't have a front sway bar , with your mods I would think you need it.

Darren,

The wandering Patrol could be a number of things. Tyre pressure, wheel bearings, steering linkages, worn steering box or even worn tyres. Try swapping the tyre from front to back and see if the problem is still there.

As for the low alternator, if you don't stop in the middle of the river crossing and maintain a good walking pace with a bow wave, then water should not get any where near the alternator or into the engine bay.

When turbos first come out on 4wd diesel there was a concern that the turbo would crack if a water crossing was attempted. That myth has been busted.

If you are still concerned about water in the engine bay when going across a river, a simple blind on the front of the vehicle will also help with the bow wave.

Hi Bundy Boy,
Have you tried Wilkinson Suspension Centre in Bayswater?

Cheers,
