As i mentioned in a previous post being a newbie to these forums it has been a very eye opening experience to see how each forum operates and what can be learnt. My first post here was re purchasing a uhf radio/scanner for my Rav 4. I was thrilled to recieve such a good response although still a tad confused.
have just come off a forum relating to a particular brand of caravan and was suprised to see some negative comments about this one relating to language diagreements etc. personally I think this forum is great and have found out lots of good relevant info. The other one however seems to go around in circles with many criticisms of each other and often results in know valid answers.

So keep up the good work and as i gain more confidence hope to post more often.

Cheers Ally

Ally,
What I've noticed about forum's in general is they mimic human behaviour just nicely.

You know the age old arguments of car A is better than B, fridge A is better than B and as you've noticed, some people say Forum A is better than B.

Just do as you have done, see which one answers your questions in a way that is comfortable for you.

Geoff

Yes ...well...ummm....

This is a great forum but every now and then things do go pear shaped. The site owner however, is vigilant and reprimands us should we go beyond the pale. Although a relatively young fella, he shows maturity beyond his age in handling all of us with finesse.

The majority of full time contributors here are of a more senior age but we do not always show maturity. One wag told me to grow up not so long ago which I found most amusing.

Yes we went off line with language a short while ago but the site owner once again brought us to our senses.

There is a wealth of knowledge to be shared by contributors to this forum.

So enjoy. And if you feel so inclined, become a Member.

Cheers

ExplorOz is definitely the best place to be when not out there on the road.

Disagreements can be found on all the forums i haunt - as in any conversation between any group of people. Great people, good fun and good information here. Stick around for a while Ally and you'll be hooked.

Thanks motherhen I certainly am enjoying meeting all these new people although faceless. It is also great for me as I stare at my lonely big van in the backyard and wish my workaholic husband would retire. Certainly helps fill in the time.

guess I will keep on dreaming and meanwhile share a bit in others dreams and hopefully learn lots and also have fun.

Cheers

Hi Ally - Plan a short holidays at a times he can get away - and make it compulsory. We have only had holidays so far (although last year we managed to fit in 3 months away). I would love to be out on the road indefinitely, we just can't arrange it as yet. In the meanwhile, dreaming is good!

Hello Ally,

Like Motherhen says "the dreaming is good". You can travel a long way whilst looking out into your own backyard. It all helps in the long run for when you actually get to head off!!

One day it will be you (and I hope me) heading out on the road for "as long as it takes".

In the meantime enjoy your dreaming and planning. You've come to the right place to be inspired by the trips and knowledge of others. I read new places to dream about from the trips of exploroz members all the time.

Best wishes

Viv

Hi Ally,

my wife and I are about to embark on the great Oz adventure and plan to travel for 6 or 7 years before jumping the ditch and doing a year in New Zealand. I am 52 and my wife 51 and we are doing this now because, even at our age, the untimely demise of some of our friends has brought it home to us that you are dead for a very long time.

Maybe you should remind hubby of this.....

Hi Russell.
We to have lost many friends of our own age but my husband continues to go full steam ahead. Says he does not know what he would do if he did not work. I personally could think of a 100 things to do.

Could i ask if you and your wife have retired or do you intend to work on your trip.
Hope you both have a great trip and enjoy this great country

Cheers Ally

Hi again,

we are going to have a "working retirement". My wife is going to work and I'm going to retire. Just kidding. We don't have to work but we will most likely do a bit here and there so that we don't have to dig into the savings.

In the line of work I do, if we can get four weeks a year that will be more than enough. Otherwise we'll be on the lookout for the usual stuff - fruit picking, caretaking, farmhand, my wife is a bookkeeper, so a bit of that, although I don't currently do it, I was in IT so I'll be looking to do computer repairs and consultancy and so on....

cheers,

Russ
