Prado Diesel oil filters

Has anyone with a diesel Prado noticed the low oil pressure light taking an excruciating long time to go out when starting first thing in the morning ? This appears to be related to the genuine Toyota filters that are replaced at every service. If I check the oil within ten minutes of stopping the engine the level is right on the top mark. However if I check the oil in the morning, before starting the oil level has increased above the normal mark by approx 10 mm on the dipstick.
It appears that this will happen with some genuine filters and not with others. Toyota say this is normal and not to worry. If there was some consistency to the genuine filters operation I would not be concerned. Can anyone recommend a suitable replacement that has an effective anti drain valve ?

Hi Zodarp
I went through this last year with my 05 model.
I tried genuine, Ryco and the best was Fleetguard.
With the fleetguard one on the light went out in half the time it did with the toyota one. They are about half the price as well.
I haven't tried a Sakura one yet but these are supposed to be very good filters.
I am still using the genuine one until warranty runs out which isn't until July next year. Saying that I think I have a Ryco one on at the moment.
Hope this helps

I've used only Genuine filters on 2 Prado diesels and then the 79series (uses the same filters). You get the occasional filter that seems to empty out after a day or two, but the majority hold their oil for at least a day. I guess it hasn't bothered me.

Hi there Zodarp, I would be gettingt it in some form of service reciept that you have asked questions in relation to the issue just incase at a later date there is an issue with the motor that is related to possible oil pressure issues. I hope you dont have any problems but I would be covering your arse just incase. They can print it out for you and it will have on there any things they have had to check through the customers request. Then keep in your files at home just incase. Are you talking abour the 1kz motor or the d4d new one. I just rang my mate and he said his light goes out almost instantly from a cold start up. His is the 1kz 03 model and runs genuine toyota filters. Regards Steve M

I don't think it is anything to worry about. Had our 95 series TD for 5 years, 119,000 km, towed a caravan around most of this country, the oil light stays on a little long, but has never been a symptom of any other problem. It is just something systemic with the 1KZ engine.

I've just switched to the Purolator brand for my Paj, along with Mobil 1. Cost more than the Ryco types but, hopefully, ya gets what ya pays for ;-))
Oil pressure light goes out almost immediately on start up and the car runs much smoother with the Mobil 1. Didn't believe that the type of oil could make such a difference...

Hi John,
I don't believe that Purolator make a Z334 equivalent filter for the diesel Prado

Cheers
