Hi,
we’re looking for reliable and honest partners in theirs 50’s to travel entire length of Canning Stock Route.
Is there anyone dreaming to make this journey? We must travel in August 2007.
We are proud owners of Land Rover Discovery Tdi 1 / 300 and looking for someone with similar “beautifully crazy” interest. Up to now we travelled all major Outback tracks solo. We didn’t have any luck to find anyone to have possibility to get one months of holiday from work and want to spend it in real wilderness of our beautiful Australian bush. So if you are interested, let us know by email.

I wish I could come with you, but you are 2 years too early for us.
Good luck with your quest, hope it works for you.

Doing it in 2009, we are starting to put up invitations in JULY/August this year.
I honestly believe that this is the only fair way to ask people, as it gives them time to build up holidays, and to save up ..
Remember that you are on the the Canning for 3 weeks, and then you have to get there , and get home,,,,SO WE ARE PLANNING 10 - 12 WEEKS AWAY.

Once again good luck with your quest

Cheers
Bucky

We drove the Canning on our own thirteen years ago and enjoyed every minute of it.

We would feel obligated travelling with others. As it is we have had special friends along on two subsequent trips which took in parts of the CSR.

You will have to put your email address up if you want responses.

G'day Willem.
Yes, me an the Missus travel alone, also. To hook up with a friend or so is OK, but to travel along -side -of others is begging disaster.
(Never mind some goose you've never slept with).
We may run part of the CSR ( bleep ! Coming from Bundaberg, that spells rum.) next year, possibly August.
btw, Footloose could be enticed for part of the trip. Be bloody good one, eh. JH.

I agree with Willem.

Even people you know well, can become frustrating on an extended trip. This happened to me last year quite unexpectedly.

Sometimes you can be lucky, but if things go wrong it can also spoil a trip.

I'd be inclined to do it solo. If you meet people along the way who you feel comfortable with by all means team up.

Two thirds of my trips are now solo, because I want the freedom of not having to fit in with a prescribed schedule or the idiosyncrasies of other people.

Have a good trip.

Regards

Kim

Hi Andy and Sally
Sorry I couldn't write sooner, my internet didn't worked. Yesterday evening I managed to send one reply before the thing stopped working.
So I hope you can write me and let me know, if you would like to come with us as independent companion on CSR. dana.melcer@exemail.com.au
We have also quite good experience in off-road travel. We love it, and we think it is like heroin. Cost is about the same, but there is no rehabilitation.....Only cure is to pack and go!

Emil and Dana,

I hope you get interest from fellow travellers, although I'm with Roachie - I think you'll find most people will need more notice.

That's not the point of my reply however. I'm wondering if the full CSR will be do-able this year after the rain from the two recent cyclones; and with potentially more to come.

I know of several trips [planned for this year that have been put off until next year (hopefully). I don't wont to shoot down your plans - but rather mention this now so you can check things out.

Good luck with your endeavours,

G'day Jimbo,

they actually had more cyclone crossings last year than they have so far this year (even counting the on on the way). I think August is a pretty good month to attempt it as it is often at least four months after the last cyclone.

If it is left until September you can often find it getting a bit warm towards the top end.

Just a point of clarification if I may......

The response (above) which appears under my name, was actually typed in by ol' mate, Bucky (from Wonthaggi, Vic), who, together with Lyn, his wife, was visiting us for a few days.

There's a classic example of how friendships can be made in the bush. We first met Bucky and a mate of his at Lyndhurst a couple of years ago. They tagged along with our 4WD Club for the trip to Birdsville and across the Simmo......we've been good friends ever since.

So, the Roach clan is not currently planning a CSR trip, but we could be in a couple of years; so we might end up being a part of the 2009 trip......too far ahead for me to plan anything yet.

Cheers

Roachie

Hi Emil and Dana.

You're a year early for us as well. We've already made plans to be slumming it at Middle Lagoon on the Dampier Peninsular this August. We will be going from there up to Halls Creek and down the Tanami Rd about the time you'll be finishing, so maybe we'll cross paths somewhere up there?

We're in your preferred demographic as well.

Cheers,

Russ and Sue.

Only downturn were mozzies. I did never experienced anything like it. Somehow Emil was OK they didn’t sucked him, but I was the meal on the wheel.

You never know, we can meet somewhere in our big outdoor.

See you Dana & Emil

Emil and Dana,
If you have travelled that much you could do the CSR by yourself. A few extra precautions would be required, all of which I am sure you know about. As long as both of you are in reasonable health, can both drive, change tyres etc, I don't see an issue. We started with a tag along on the CSR last year and lasted 3 days. It drove us absolutely mental and did the rest of it by ourselves. There is often single vehicles at each end looking for a match up. We ran into several others going in the oposite direction who were still looking for someone to hook up with. To tell you the truth the CSR may be one of those tracks best experienced alone.

Dear Steev
Good a idea.
Thank you very much, that is good advice. We would never ever go with tag along!
How much of the pure nature you can see in convoy that make so much dust?
