Morning all, I've got a 03 series 3 Patrol and to date have had no problems with it, until yesterday. As I was cruising the h/way at 105ks I lost all power from the motor, even at full throttle it was zippo, nothing. But when I backed off to pull over it regained full power straight away. I can remember a couple of months ago someone having a similar problem on the forum, but I can't find it. So I am asking if anyone else has had this happen and if so what was the cause of it.
The fuel filters are ok so it wasn't a lack of fuel due to blocked filters.

Max.

Hi Max,
It seems that your car has gone into Safety or Limp Mode. Most probably due to overboosting or MAF failure. Did you see the “Check Engine” lamp come on? If not, you probably haven’t recorded a fault code either and this is most likely the case.
You may have to replace your Mass Airflow Sensor.

Thanks Shaz but no I didn't see the Check Engine light come on . But I did forget to mention that I did block off the EGR value a couple of months ago.

Ok Max, then if you have blocked your EGR valve off you will need to lower your boost. If you already have, then you should lower it some more.
Just wind the actuator limiting screw down about ½ a turn and that should do.

Thanks again Chaz I havn't got an gauges on at yet. Saving up the $ for new exhaust to go with them. So I might take the block out of the EGR until I can watch the boost and engine exhaust temp.

Hi Max,

I was the one with the same problem in early March (you were referring to?).

Chaz was spot on regarding the overboost cause (due to blocked EGR), maybe you should have a look at post (42960)...it's an easy mod to do.

Max,
That sort of thing happens to the GQ Petrol 3.0l on occasions. It may be that thread you are remembering (perhaps).
With that issue it is temp related (cold).

Cheers Cam
