We have just returned from 18 enjoyable days in Tasmania. It was our first trip to Tasmania and also the longest time we have spent away in the camper. Thought we had kept the luggage/essentials to a minimum but could do better. Always plenty to learn from the seasoned travellers.
We covered a fair amount of the island (4393ks) using our NP pass and some free camping.
For those of you heading off soon, take some woolies as it gets cool as soon as the sun goes down.
Last week the new season apples and pears where on sale at the roadside stalls. Blackberries are ripe on most of the fence lines. Make sure you try some of the many varieties of potatoes as well.
If like my husband, you like timber than Tassie is the place. We did the 12hr trip home because of the 6ft slab of Blackwood bought prior to leaving! That or he would have had to sleep on it!
Loved Tassie and have 539 photos to remind me. Chris likes to drive so I do the pictorial diary.
regards,
Joan

Hi Joan,
Your holiday's sound fab.
Our friends are heading over to Tassie straight after easter.
They are sleeping in a roof top tent.
So I better rely the message about the wooly's.

Never been over to Tassie our self's but will do in the next couple of years.

Cheers Jeff

Hi Jeff,
Tell your friends that the countryside will look spectacular soon with autumn colours, the leaves were only just beginning to change when we left.
Hope your plans work out.
cheers, Joan

The wife and I spent three weeks in Tassie with the camper trailer last November. We absolutley loved it. Had lovely weather the whole time. Our fave spots were the Bay of Fires and Strahan. We met some lovely people at every stop.

Hi Upstart,
Agree with you Upstart, our weather was mixed but we're not complaining.
Bay of Fires is a beautiful area. Strahan is popular, we couldn't get a site there as they were booked out for 1 month in advance. We stayed in Zeehan 35mins. away and found it an interesting place in it's own right. Did the Gordon River cruise and saw the stranded whales.
Met some very interesting characters along the way. Must say everyone was helpful and friendly.
cheers, Joan

Sounds awsome. We only just decided to do Tassie next year with a camper and 2 x young kids with friends with a similar setup and family. What time of the year would you recommend given we still want to be able to have a fire at night but not get snowed or iced on???!!! How cold did it get for you overnight in March???

We have been over at different times of the year and found that this time of the year it is just beautiful, cool nights and very pleasant days. You will love it, we loved it so much we are planning to move there at the end of the year when we build at scamander on the east coast.

Hi D-Jack,
What djrziggy posted is what we had been told.
Work with layers so that you can add too or take off.You will find that you can quickly travel from alpine areas to coastal areas, so dress accordingly.

We are off to Tassie in 3 weeks.

Cheating though , Cabins , not taking the CT. Decided it was too impracticle for this trip (2 weeks, moving everyday).

Taking note of the Woolies

Hi flappa,
Can understand your sentiments. We had 2 nights in a cabin during the 18 days and really appreciated it. Both times because we couldn't get a P/S.
cheers,
Joan

Hi johnj,
We were given lots of recommendations re:CPs and found that often we had a different experience. So best advise is to do your homework and take it from there.
We would go back to Dover for it's location and either Beauty Point or Low Head, both either side of the Tamar River. Lot's of choices, good luck.
cheers,
Joan
