I'm having problems finding a second spare for a 1998 100 series GXL with the live axle. I have heard that a 78/79 troopy wheel will fit. Has anyone tried it? Wreckers have the troopy but not the 100 series rim. I don't want to pay the $275 that Toyota quoted me (Rim only).

A troopy or cab chassis or standard split rim x 100 series
barn door will fit.Make sure it is 5 stud ..No need to pay that sort of money ..The tyre will be narrower but will suffice as a spare

Wreckers are usually the worst place to buy spare rims. Tyre dealers and Ebay are better. I'm almost certain the 78/79series rims will fit, but they are split rims. IMO, better to keep shopping around the tyre dealers for a proper 16x8 GXL rim. And you can also buy a brand new 16x7 or 16x8 white spoke wheel for about $100 new.

A 16x7 or 16x8 white spoke wheel will fit a 100 series live axle.
I own 2 100 series GXLs, a 100 series STD and a 78 series troopy, all my second spares are 16x7 rims and all tyres are 265 75 16.
The different rims are the IFS GXLs, you can buy 16x8 or 16x7 white spoke rims for approx $100 .
Cheers Steve.

Phil,
Not wrong about wreckers!! One quoted me about $250 for a Nissan split rim (no tyre). Went to a tyre place and bought one virtually brand new for $30.
The wreckers just find out the new price from the dealer and drop the price a little bit.

5 stud on 150 PCD with zero offset will suit to a tee. The IFS has a 60P (positive offset) and will not fit. Most split rim 78/9 series rims vary from 10-30p and although altering tracking slightly will fit OK.
As mentioned the white sunraisia wheel will do the job for a fraction of genuine.5 years ago tyre dealers couldn't give the genuines away with the changeover to alloys but now they are as expensive as the old 6 stud 80s.
Good luck

Ring around the tyre dealers in case anyone has traded some in. I put a wanted ad on this
forum and after several weeks someone rang me to say they had just traded a set in. Went straight there and paid $30 for one. Or ring the Toyota dealers and ask them where they send the new vehicles if a buyer wants aftermarket
wheels.

Don't know if this would fit or if it is still available. See the LCOOL web site for more details.

Prado rims are 6 stud; 100series are 5 stud. Might be an issue :-))))
