Hi Guys,
I have read a few posts regarding Electric Trailer Brakes here. The question I am going to ask is proberly silly, however I have had nothing to do with Electric brakes in the past.
Can you set up a brake controller with your standard round 7 pin outlet, or do you need to move to a Flat 7 pin?
We have just purchased a new horse float which has Electric braking, We are yet to pick it up, however I had a quick glance at it and it appears to only have a standard round 7 pin plug.
I have a 100 series TD Landcruiser, It is having the brake controller installed tomorrow, will the install a Flat outlet? And will both drive the brakes?
Any info appreciated
Cheers

Doesn't amtter what outlet you use, as long it matches the trailer.
Just get the installer to fit correct socket to match your new float.

Hi hosea
Yes any trailer plug will do.
Prodigy or Voyager are great controllers.
There is also a Redarc unit that is quite good.

Derek.

Derek,
Are you back from China?
I have sent an email and tried to phone you without success.
Does your footprint for battery under bonnet take a Fullriver 120 AGM 3312 long 175 wide.
Sorry for hijacking thread, but urgent need of this info .

Hi hosea
1) You can you set up a brake controller with your either a 7 pin round OR a 7 pin flat.
2) You can buy convertors from 7pin round to 7 pin flat (and vica versa) however I would NOT recommend these as the brakes draw a fair bit of current and the more termination points or plugs you have the greater the risk of electrical failure.
3) I'm sure if you talk to the horse float supplier they will change the plug for you suit your Cruiser. I not an auto electrician can easily change the plug over on the horse float. This would be the best method in my opinion.
If you want to change over the plug yourself I can email you the pin arrangements for both the 7pin flat and round if you wish.
Cheers

having had both, the flat ones are much nicer. Easier to connect and less likely to get bashed against something due to skinnier profile. Look better too!

The flat plugs are more reliable. Less problems with a 'poor' connection. Even so sometimes I have to take to the pins to make them wider for a snug fit
