Hi all
have oziexplorer on two computers - laptop on the move in truck - garmin etrex to gather data - track stored in moving map on laptop - works ok on laptop when reloaded - however when loaded on the desktop at
home the track plots shift dramatically north and west - checked setup - apparently the same on both machines.
Tried alternate datums and other settings without improvement - track on desktop still in different and wrong position. Have reloaded oziexplorer and updated but no improvement. Thinking of reloading natmaps & mapfiles.
Suggestions appreciated.

Hi Smort,
One thing to
check on your desktop is the map calibration. If that is out you will get the problem you are encountering - much more dramatic than incorrect datum! If unsure how to do this please get back to me.
regards
Mike

Hi Mike
thanks - spot on - you have identified the problem - now to fixing it.
I have the natmap rasters 250k loaded and the map files installed by ozi - presumably all maps would be out - hope i dont have to calibrate them all - I may be gone for some time - maybe reload map files?
Hema Desert tracks seem ok
Appreciate a solution - it is not immediately apparent to this wood duck - can you help?
cheers
Smort
Any suggestion

Hi Smort - There is a simple way to find which system is out.
On the 250K map, there are horizontal (Latitude) and vertical (longitude) lines.
The major ones have their position in degrees marked. For instance near the town of
Dalveen on the Qld/NSW border on the
New England Highway, the 28deg30 crosses the 152deg00. (Find
Dalveen with the NAME search).
As you move your cursor, OZI shows the lat / long in the top left.
By moving your cursor to exact point where the two known lines intersect, you can then
check the lat long as displayed by Ozi, and if they differ from that on NATMAP, you know the error......................Keith

Smort,
If you are using Natmap Maps on both systems, then it is not a calibration issue. The maps are already in a digital, calibrated format so calibration must already be the same for both.
I would recheck your configuration settings on the Desktop PC to see if it matches the GPS you are using. (File - Calibration - GPS)
Alternatively, you could try changing both to raw NMEA Only input, create a new track, then compare the two.

Hi Sandman, agree with what you are saying. However in my experience one of the >MAP files could be out as all that is being transferred is the >PLT file?

"The maps are already in a digital, calibrated format so calibration must already be the same for both"
Not true - The "maps" used by OE consist of an image file and a calibration file -there have been a number of versions of the 250K natmaps over the years - some people have reported issues before and the problem has been because they were using the wrong version map files (available for download from various sites) for the map images they have eg 2005 map images and 2003 calibration files. Not sure if this is issue here but it could be (ie one computer has correct calibration files ...one doesnt). It is actually very easy just to import the ecw images using the import map function in OziExplorer – the map files are created for you so there will be no issue with wrong version if you do this.
Yes you are right Mike - changing the configuration settings as suggested would not have any effect when just transferring plt files from one computer to another. The GPS settings in configuartion will only effect data as it is downloaded direct from GPS.
Cheers

Greg,
I understand that, but my logic tells me that if a person possesses a copy of the Natmap CDs or DVDs, then they would surely load the same version on both their Laptop and Desktop PC's and therefore the calibration files would be identical.
Or, am I missing something here?

Gid-day Sand Man - who knows the sequence of events in a Natmap/OziExplorer users life by which they would unknowingly load the wrong map files onto one of their two computers? Numerous possibilities. Fact of the matter is that it has happened and will probably happen again. I think what you are "missing" was the level of probability that someone could make this error. It maybe low but based on my experience/reading other forums it is most definitely one of the possible causes of problems (as in this case) and must be investigated during the problem solving process. You suggested in your first post that "calibration must already be the same for both". This is an incorrect assumption based on the information supplied in initial question.
Cheers
