ACCC to watch
Easter fuel prices
March 30, 2007 - 10:49AM
Australia's consumer watchdog will monitor fuel prices this
Easter in a bid to curb the standard holiday weekend price hikes.
Treasurer Peter Costello said the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACC) would be asked to vigorously monitor prices at the pump in the lead-up to
Easter.
"If they find any evidence of price fixing they are entitled to prosecute and they have successfully brought some prosecutions and achieved very large fines against those people that have been found to be price fixing," he told reporters.
Petrol prices traditionally rise ahead of holiday weekend such as
Easter time, to the fury of motorists

Hi Truckster.
Unfortunately this doesn't affect the Northern Territory apparently there aren't enough of us to warrant this type of scrutiny.

Same in FNQ.
Anything North of the
Tropic of Capricorn and you're the forgotten people, except when its august and they want a holiday and get warm for a bit.
Then the buggers whinge about the high cost of everything.

Crude oil may be up, but our Government is trying hard to get the aussie dollar up too to counter balance it.
Aussie dollar now at a high of about 80c US.
Crude oil is in US$, so we don't feel the pain so much.
I am sure that is why Little Johnnie is letting the aussie $ go up. I am sure he only has the other citizens of this great country as his major concern.
Of course, the oil companies are smart enough not to let the price in
Canberra go up and down too much either, so all is great.
(Mr Howard, where is my reward for such drivel? It hasn't arrived in the mail yet. )

Me - cynical?
Wife suggested we should start a new political party.
The no politicians party.
First line of the agenda is no one is allowed to serve more than one term.
Any one who has served their country (OK, I use the word 'serve' loosely) in local, state or federal government can not be a member of the party. That leaves 20 odd million Australians, less a few thousand, who can be members.
And I am not having a go at the few politicians who do really try.
Now that is cynicism.

oil companys came out yesterday and said fuel will be going up over the next couple of weeks because of the price of oil not because its a long weekend.

What ive noticed no one has pointed out yet, is that our fuel price here is tied to the price of singapore base fuel price, a comodity traded worldwide in stock exchanges. I dont know much more, but it is not tied directly to the crude oil price. Perfect example to show these bastards the proof of their conspiring acts towards us, is that 3 weeks ago, if you can get a chart of these two, you can see the that when the crude oil price went down 5 dollars, the singapore base fuel price went up! Thats when we had that jump of ten cents a litre on the tuesday of that week.
Why they get away with this? i have no idea!
The fuel companies have REALLY got thier bleep sorted out, they really know how to get us where it hurts.

Hey, come on they do a good job - Didn't they just take Glaxo Clyn Smith (?) to court over their false and very misleading statement about Ribbena Juice having three times the amount of vitimum C than oranges - I thought that was very good work by them....
Opps sorry - I didn't realise that it was two 14 year old NZ school girls that worked this out :-((
Maybe they should get those girls to look into our fuel pricing - might do a better job!!!

Truckster,
Already up here in CQ early this week.
Unleaded went from 112.9 (cheapest) to 125.9 overnight. Since come down to 121.9.
For a change diesel stayed at 117.9
Hann't seen anything remotely resembling the ACCC around the place.
Cheers,
Bros.

Geez Bros - that's a hike. Down here in SEQ it is beween 110.9 (that was a lucky fill I reckon) to 118.9 for diesel. Didn't notice the other fuels. Are you going o.k - any trips planned. We'll be in CQ (Glad) about mid-year I think.
