Hi All,
I've recently got a HF fitted, membership with VKS 737,in preparation for up coming trip, and wanted to know what frequencies are out there that others listen to,that may be of intrest to those of us who don't get out much.
MY HF has the 5 VKS channels, heaps of RFDS channels programmed and about 50 others that i have no idea what there for.

Channel 2 is the main frequency 8022kz and channel for secondary 5455 Khz
have you joined the Radio Club , if not you won't be allowed on unless it's an extreme emergency/

Google HF Frequencies, Australian for some interesting results. If your HF has a general coverage receiver facility, check out the "Ham" freuencies.
If you just want to find out what your other frequencies are for , check the ACMA search by frequency.

The one i've got ain't no newie, thats why there is heaps of freq already in there.
can program 200 channels but I think it can only scan 10? will have a play around on the w/end.
Doesn't appear to have an open scan, will only scan freq I put in, hence the question.

The Radio Australia frequencies are worth putting in. Google for Radio Aust. The NT ABC frequencies are set up to cover the NT but not much else (tho they have had a power upgrade recently), whereas the RA freq's give good coverage. Just check out the freq's for either SE Asia if you're in the top end, or Pacific if further over East. Download their schedules and carry them with you.
Also, you can get weather faxes if you have a laptop. link to BOM.
VKS737 has some info. Basically, you can download some software which converts audio from the Weather HF channel to a weather map on your lappie. Just an audio lead from your HF to your audio-in of your lappie and voila! (yet to try it myself tho).

Depends who porgrammed your HF and what channels it has set up - you can probably add extras - I bought a used unit and it has about 150 channels set up including the usual suspects (VKS, RFDS, Radtel, etc). Also iInternational channels from the big players - Propoganda Central (Voice of America) - Radio Netherlands, China, etc etc etc. - jeez they must crank up the wattage !. As mentioned above, the ABC sends out their local radio broadcasts on HF, but (far as I know) only from Katherine, Tennant Creek and the Alice... useful for news pickup when away - often good when the car radio is useless, even while mobile.
