Following on from my crappy post 43348 about big bums and pota potties I have now purchased one and wasn't game to ask the lovely sales lady how to work it.

So now for the answers from you 'Regular" users.

Do you sit on it , do the business and then pull out the lever that operates the shutter or do you pull that out and let it drop down the hole.

And by the way this is my last crappy post I hope!

Hi David, pull the lever out first or it will be a real bleep ty job cleaning around the seals. We use just the cheap no frills, no name dunny paper for the porta loo as we find its flushs alot easier then the thick sorbent type, it also saves you having to empty as much as it wont fill up so quickly with dunny paper. I find with our's the actual flushing water tank holds more than the bottom waste tank there for I only add enough water to the top tank as to not over fill the bottom tank. Should be the other way around so the bottom tank holds more then the top tank. Also make sure you close the lever when finished your duty or will attract creepy crawly's. You can normally tell when it needs emptying as when you pull the lever open you will see the level anyway. If only staying some where for a couple of days I only put just enough water in the flush tank (top) as these do not seal up and you will end up with nice smelling flush water in the back of your vehicle, wont harm anything but anything in the vicinty will get wet. I have never had any problems with the bottom tank leaking but usually empty as soon as possible. Make sure the cap on the spout where you drain the bottom tank is nice and tight or you will be using some serious air freshners in the cruiser. When we go away we dont leave home with out it, even if staying in caravan parks with the camper we take it so if the other half wakes up through the night she can go in the annexe of the camper saves me getting a tap on the shoulder "come with me too the toilet and wait outside" now I can just keep on snoring LOL Regards Steve M

I got a name for that cheap no name brand of dunny paper.

Its called John Wayne Dunny paper.

The reason being is, It's Rough It's Tuff and it won't take any bleep from nobody.

Cheers Steve.

Also when you have used it a couple of times, keep the lid down when you pull the leaver as you sometimes get SHOT as the gas escapes, (very unpleasent...lol)

Although we are thunder box types now, I remember the trick was to line the inside with a layer of paper before doing the big ones, so the skid maks were not left behind.

We transport ours inside a plastic storage bin we bought from Bunnings, enough room to put the chemical bottle and another 10 litre backup water bottle. This way any spills are contained in the container, mind the pun. No problems of road etc, peice of mind.

Also it pays to not empty too quickly as need to give the chemical a chance to break down the paper and solids. 3-4 days usually does the trick.

Hi David
I disagree with Stephen, about the top tank, we fill ours , add the right amount of chemical and you will get 3 - 4 bottom tanks from it, not forgetting that most of whats in there doesnt come from top tank!
Know one has totally answered your question so here goes, the proccess!
Take note too Willem, just in case you need one, one day !
Lift the lid, pull down daks, sit on seat, reach between legs and pull out handle, complete due proccess at hand, take toilet paper and use as needed, close down lid, and then flush with pump, a pump or 2 will normally be enough, but with big bums more may be required LOL, close shut handle, proccess complete.
I like Phil's idea of lining the opening with a layer of paper to stop the skid marks, must tell SWMBO LOL !
OK enough sh it from me!

Cheers Pesty

Fantastic news Ruth, are you old enough to be a grannies !!!LOL

Our footy team is growing too, our first grandaughter, 3rd grandy, was born in August, and our 4th in January, and the mother and father of the grandaughter, 8 months nearly, has just discovered there has been a little accident and is pregnant again ahahah, so number 5 is on the way later in the year.

Have had them all here for a few days, has been Mrs Pesty's birthday, yesterday, and we just got back from a twilight visit to the beach with the whole crew, and did hear a quiet word at one stage from Mrs Pesty " I think Im getting too old for this " ahhahaha

Anyway enough of my gloating, hope you get to enjoy yours a real lot they are great to have around and take camping.

Cheers for now Pesty

When I first used mine, I didn't put any Bio-Magic in the bottom tank, and thought that the flush from the top tank is what broke it down. Wrong! Anyway, after about 3 days (of trialling it at home and also using it for our 2.5 year old girl who was toilet training, it got to the stage where it was impossible to breath while sitting on the toilet with the hatch open! My 2 year old would vomit because of the smell! Then we found out what we were doing wrong!

Anyway, after enquiring at the the store we purchased it from, they said I was crazy for opening the hatch when you go, instead fill it with a couple of pumps of top water to make a little pool, do your business, open after and flush.

Problem was skiddies all around the bowl and seals. Even when we tried the toilet paper thing in the bowl, when it went down it still left skiddies!

I now have the Bio-Magic mix right (thanks for the tip Sandman), open the trapdoor for bogs only, and leave it closed for no 1s. I guess provided the chemical mix is right, there shouldn't be a smell worth worrying about, and I haven;t had occasion where my toosh has been splashed by a bomb yet. Mine's a Fiama Bi-Pot, can thoroughly recommend in lieu of a Porta Pottie.

I love toilet talk!

Reading the instructions for ours it says to NEVER put anything in the top tank except clean water.
The chemical stuff goes in the bottom tank only, so many mils before use and then no more till it is emptied and cleaned.
We never leave it open when using it either, just a couple of pumps before use to make a puddle, then a sheet or two to stop skid marks, open after use and flush some more.
Ours is an Aldi which is the same as a Companion and a few others at a guess.

Funny how instructions vary Peter, ours came with a 2 part chem system, pink in the top tank and blue in the bottom, worked good, even though now i have changed chemicals, i still put some in the top tank.

Cheers Pesty

We just use the one Chemtech (they make the diesel additive, read into that what you will!) additive in the bottom tank from memory about 40mils for a 20l tank. Seems to work ok as the 'deposits break down ok and the smell isn't too bad. ;-))

So pPeter does that mean you empty your Porta loo into your fuel tank afterwards as an additive. Is that what bio diesel really is.............lol

Ok thanks for your answers.
Mow just one more question.

I take it when you come back from your weekend you leaver a couple of days to break down.

I assume you just leave the top tank full(thats the flushing tank) and does the enviromently freiendly chemical have a shelf life when moxed into the top tank?
