Howdy Forumites ,

I got back Saturday from two weeks in the Alice Springs area . Twice we were rained out - the second time we just made it out of the Eastern James Ranges with
a camel trailer and two beasts before we were locked in for a week .

Trips we did :

Went out to the Finke at Horseshoe Bend Station and camped the night . Came back to Stuart's Well and camped .

Went on a five day trip up through from Ernest Giles Rd to Tempe Downs , Illara WH , Stone Yards , Conways WH , Bowson's Hole , Areyonga , Three Holes , Spider WH , Buka WH , Fall Down WH , Ilamata Springs , Ilbilla , then back down through Tempe again and crossed the Palmer River further west than we went in , as we were cut off by water logged claypans .You need to know people on these properties to do this trip . Some of the tracks had not been travelled much in the last couple of years , and we had a lot of trouble finding them , and staying on them when we had found them .

Did a day trip out to Walkabout , Rainbow Valley Renner's Rock .

We also did a half day 4WD trip down the Hugh River in WW Valley . Does anybody have any info on the plane wreck in there ?

Next , we took two camels out by trailer and established a base in the Eastern James Ranges . Then we made two day trips into the James Ranges . It rained heavily then and we were lucky not to be stuck in there for a few days .

The weather report looked bad , so we left the balance of our trip for next year .

No mechanical problems with the car . Plenty of interesting aboriginal cave paintings and rock peckings / engravings . Many beautiful waterholes in the gorges and had some memorable swims .

Note .
I have old and new maps of the James Ranges and there are huge variations in the spelling of many of the names of waterholes etc .
I did not get a GPS Route / Track of the trip as my GPS crapped itself .

Cheers ,

Willie .

Welcome back Willie, no need for me to point out the irony in getting washed out in the desert. Hope you have some photos.

Kind regards

Welcome Home Willie,

Sounds like the wet weather dampened your trip. LOL

Check out Steve T (NT)'s profile for some Aboriginal Art that he's come across, you might find it interesting.

Cheers Kev

Hmmmm......no wonder you didn't stop by on the way back.

You are in serious trouble mate.

Remember a bag full of goodies you were to give to the young fella's missus? Seems like you took that with you.

Here in the bush there are no secrets.

lol

Cheers

Willem ,

I was early when I came through and after my last visit , where I found you still in bed at 9.00am , I thought I would leave you to your beauty sleep - God knows , you need it !

I found the goodies for Isabel when I went to put some vegies in the fridge at Alice Springs . To make up for it , I gave her my jar of pickles when I got back there !

I am going to the Autofridge fixing person tomorrow morning . It will not work off the 240 volt thingie either so it is something in the fridge , not the wiring or the battery.

"Or is that another secret" - what was the first secret ?
