I called into the local Toyota dealership here in
Adelaide yesterday to get a new wiper blade for the passenger side windscreen wiper. I had bought a cheap replacement when the original on my 2006 L/Cruiser started to peel apart but it doesn't wipe as
well as the original. Silly me threw the old bits away including the little metal bits on each side of the rubber. The spare parts man said the rubber and the two bits of metal would set me back around $60.00 (the metal strips are $12.00 each). Fortunately they didn't have the rubber in stock. I would have been happy to pay around $20.00 for it considering most of the good after market ones are only around $15.00 a pair - not just one. I spent a bit of time on the cheap one last night and it works much better now - that might even be a little psychological. Do these companies live in the real world or are there really people out there silly enough to pay those sorts of prices?

Yep, you win some and you lose some.
I've found the Trico brand wipers to be a lot better than any of the other brands. But now I know they are only $12 for the Toyota ones, I'll get them :-)))

I think I paid about $19 for 2 genuine wiper blades at Mandurah a few weeks ago.
They are better, being rubber, than the silicone generic types.

I was quoted $35 for a "genuine" Toyota headlight bulb. Went to Autobarn and bought a quality Phillips for $17. Cheers Rob

That's quite interesting considering it was Northpoint Toyota who quoted me $60.00 for the one blade with the s/s strips.

maybe i am wrong about them including the ss strips....but i am sure there was something floating around in the back of the car after i replaced them that resembled those strips????
but it was northpoint and 10.89 back then for even 2 rubbers seems like a fair price......if ss strips cost the extra to make up your $60 then that does seem a bit rich

Many years ago my brother worked for a parts dealer and he said the other counter blokes would take a dislike to some customer and charge them double the list price just for fun and a laugh back at the tearoom. The world is full of them and you might find a different salesperson will give you a different price.

A man after my own heart Hopper51. I was in the process of purchasing a Mitsubisho Pajero Exceed when the Service Department of the same dealer gave me a hard time over warranty work to my existing Paj.
Well, the Exceed didn't get purchased and I now have a nice, shiny Disco 3 in the driveway. If you're reading this Mitsubishi, your dealer blew off a $75,000 deal. Does that make you feel good? My guess is you would have been better off not hassling me over that warranty work.....

I have found the parts people at CMI Wright St and Cornes on Belair Rd have been very good whenever I've bought parts.

Yes, me too Phil.
Cornes for being walking distance from
home ... although they don't extend the same discounts as the other pleasant folks at CMI in Wright Street who are not only good blokes, but helpful as... finding alternates that don't cost as much, you name it, and giving great trade discount.
Last time it was for those plastic lugs that hold the splash guards in place and which get brittle and brake when you try to remove them.
Cheers
Andrew who spends too long at Toyota service counters.

I use to own a
Tarago and my theory is that Toyota genuine parts are carved out of solid blocks of metal, rubber and glass by one of those Japanese "Living National Treasures" one little chip at a time.
That is the only way I can see any justification for the prices they set.
I went in for a new headlight because the old one had a small stone hole in it. $420 (in 1993!). At least the bloke at the parts counter had the good grace to look embarrassed about the price. He came out and had a look at the hole and told me to just plug it with a dob of silicone. It was still there when I got rid to the vehicle in 2000.

lucky you weren't in NSW Pete - you'd have to replace the headlight if the roadworth inspectorate decided to get narky.

It passed inspection by the ACT Nazi's twice in 96/97 and the NSW mob in 98/99. I can be a dab hand with the silicone at times (is silicone the modern man's fencing wire or is that tech screws?)
Cheers
