Finch fridge thermostat settings

Hi!
Ive got an old 3 way Finch fridge that works beutifully on gas but is a bit poor on 240/12v. Anyway, I was trying to work out which way the thermostat works. It goes from 1 to 7 when used on electricity. Is 7 the coldest or is it in degrees (7degrees, 1 degree)?

There are two controls on the old Finch - one for gas and one for 240V (12V just does the best it can :) both are at maximum coldness(?) when turned fully clockwise.

I have a Finch 3 way and there are two settings for gas, one a little gas light and one a big light ( pretty obvious )
And the settings are as stated before ... 7 is the coldest !!!! Bloody thing froze the milk on the weekend !!!!!!
